This job opportunity is with a reputable retail establishment specializing in automotive parts and related merchandise. The company operates retail stores that cater to customers seeking genuine auto parts and accessories with excellent customer service and timely product availability. The role being offered is the position of a General Store Staff Counter I, reporting directly to the store manager. The core duties revolve around delivering outstanding customer service, handling merchandise accurately, maintaining store cleanliness, and supporting store operations by processing sales transactions and orders efficiently. This position also requires the use of company-provided vehicles to deliver or pick up parts and merchandise from customers and vendors, highlighting the importance of reliability and adherence to schedules.
The Counter I staff member acts as the first point of contact for customers entering the store or calling by phone, greeting them promptly and providing answers to inquiries about product prices, availability, and functionality. Maintaining a friendly environment with outstanding service standards and solid product knowledge is critical to the role. Employees are responsible for processing sales including totaling the bill, accepting payments, making change, and wrapping or bagging merchandise. Special order placements, cash drawer balancing, and handling of outgoing merchandise transfers are also essential duties.
Beyond customer service, this position requires attention to store appearance by stocking shelves, setting up advertising displays, tagging merchandise prices, and ensuring the overall cleanliness and safety of the store and warehouse areas. Employees may assist with custodial tasks such as sweeping, dusting, organizing merchandise, and maintaining restrooms and aisles.
Training is a continuous aspect of this role, and employees are expected to engage in company-sponsored programs to enhance their product knowledge and service skills. Safety compliance with OSHA and company policies is mandatory to maintain a secure workplace. The candidate must maintain professional communication, appearance, attendance, and positive attitude reflecting the company’s goals and values.
Educationally, this position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for candidates having completed ASE Counterman I training. Prior experience in the auto parts industry is advantageous but not mandatory. Additional prerequisites include successful completion of background checks, physical evaluations, and drug testing, emphasizing the company’s commitment to integrity and workplace safety. Job Requirements

- Completed ASE Counterman I training course
- Meets all requirements to qualify for inclusion on AOC Approved Driver List
- Ability to work well with others and assist customers cooperatively and courteously
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Must have basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Ability to read and write in English
- Must successfully complete background and criminal history checks
- Must pass a physical, human performance evaluation and a drug test
- Good understanding of and adherence to company policies and procedures
- Must maintain regular and prompt attendance

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Completed ASE Counterman I training course
- Meets all requirements to qualify for inclusion on AOC Approved Driver List
- Related experience in the auto parts industry preferred
- Ability to work well with others and assist customers cooperatively and courteously
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Must have basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

Job Duties
- Greet each customer in a timely manner and answer the telephone within three rings
- Answer each customer's questions regarding price, availability and function of merchandise
- Obtain merchandise from shelf for customer or receives any merchandise selected from shelf by customer and creates invoice
- Ensure that each customer receives outstanding customer service by providing a friendly environment, including greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards and solid product knowledge
- Total price and tax on merchandise purchased by customer to determine bill
- Accept payment and make change
- Wrap or bag merchandise for customers
- Correctly place any special orders as required by customer
- Balance cash drawer at the end of the shift if necessary
- Stock shelves, counters, or tables with merchandise
- Set up advertising displays or arrange merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales
- Stamp, mark, or tag price on merchandise
- Bag or box orders accordingly
- Ensure outgoing transfers are processed properly and timely
- Clean shelves, counters, or tables
- Maintain safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, pallet area, and workstations neat
- comply with all OSHA and company safety procedures, rules, and regulations
- May have custodial duties including sweeping warehouse/showroom regularly, dusting shelves, organizing merchandise, cleaning and stocking rest rooms, and keeping aisles clear
- Present a good image of the company through proper dress and attitude
- Participate in and complete sponsored training
- Attend training or use electronic media to increase product knowledge
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed by management
