Job Description
CarMax is the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, with over 30 years of experience revolutionizing the used car buying process. Founded on the principles of transparency and integrity, CarMax operates more than 250 store locations across the United States and employs over 30,000 associates. Recognized as one of the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For®, CarMax is committed to creating a positive and rewarding work environment where associates feel empowered to make an impact every day.
CarMax’s dedication to innovation and customer experience has helped shape the modern auto retail landscape by offering a transparent, no-haggle car buying experience that customers trust. The company strives not only to provide excellent products and services but also to foster a culture of inclusivity and community growth. CarMax values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer, ensuring all qualified individuals are considered fairly regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other legally protected characteristics.
The role of Auction Services Associate at CarMax’s El Mirage Auction location in Arizona is pivotal to maintaining the quality, security, and smooth operation of the vehicle inventory. This position is responsible for several important operational functions, including zone maintenance, vehicle preparation, vehicle receiving, inventory scanning, reconciliation, and asset protection. Serving as a key link between internal departments and external customers, the associate ensures that vehicles are properly handled and ready for sale or auction while providing exceptional customer service.
In this fast-paced, high-energy environment, the Auction Services Associate will assist with the supervision and execution of vehicle flow both on and off the lot to maximize operational efficiency. Daily duties center around maintaining organized vehicle zones and parking areas, documenting accurate inventory records through shipping and receiving processes, and completing detailed vehicle preparation tasks such as pairing locators, securing keys, and capturing photographs. This maintains the final quality of saleable inventory and supports a seamless auction experience.
Moreover, the associate collaborates closely with team members across departments to promote best practices, support training efforts for new associates, and uphold CarMax’s Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) standards. Working outdoors in various weather conditions and handling vehicles up to 50 lbs are part of the regular physical demands of the position. The role involves flexible scheduling that may include nights, weekends, and holidays, underscoring the importance of adaptability.
CarMax’s culture emphasizes continuous learning and career growth, encouraging associates to build on their operational skills while benefiting from the company’s robust training programs. Aside from being an exciting opportunity to join a leader in the automotive retail industry, this role offers the chance to contribute directly to the company’s dedication to revolutionizing customer experience and driving community impact. Overall, this position is ideal for a motivated individual eager to thrive in a dynamic setting, deliver excellent service, and be part of an innovative team focused on shaping the future of car buying.
