Job Description

The Chicago Park District is a renowned municipal agency dedicated to providing recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities across a wide range of park facilities. Recognized as one of the largest park districts in the nation, it manages numerous parks, playgrounds, recreational centers, and special venues throughout the city of Chicago. Its mission is centered on enhancing the quality of life for residents by offering accessible outdoor spaces and enriching programs that promote health, wellness, and community engagement.

This specific employment opportunity is for a full-time Attendant position covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the Chicago Park District and the Service Employees International Union Local 73. The District follows a process of internally considering eligible applicants prior to reviewing external candidates. However, it is actively assembling a list of qualified applicants for future consideration in cases where internal candidates are unavailable or not selected.

The Attendant role plays a vital part in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of park facilities designated for public use. Responsibilities include the daily maintenance of restrooms and other facilities to ensure they remain sanitary and welcoming. The individual will also be tasked with the care and upkeep of recreational equipment and supplies provided for visitors' enjoyment. Reporting on attendance and distribution of materials is part of the routine administrative tasks. Additionally, the Attendant operates and maintains heating equipment when assigned, an important duty to ensure comfort and safety during colder periods.

This position requires immediate attention to litter, trash removal, and hazard cleanup around park buildings and grounds, focusing on preventing injury or accidents among patrons. Situations such as broken glass or slippery spills demand swift action to maintain a secure environment for all. The role involves some manual labor and the safe handling and operation of various maintenance equipment such as floor buffing machines and the use of cleaning agents including waxes.

Candidates are expected to possess prior experience related to building or grounds maintenance and demonstrate a basic knowledge of sanitation protocols and safety procedures. Effective communication skills to respond to routine inquiries from the public enhance the effectiveness of the role. The job demands a responsible attitude, physical stamina, and a commitment to keeping park areas safe, functional, and attractive for Chicago citizens and visitors alike.

As a full-time employee under the collective bargaining agreement with SEIU Local 73, the position offers a comprehensive benefits package that supports the health, wellbeing, and work-life balance of employees. The annual salary for the role is $54,932.55, reflecting the value placed on the attendant's contribution to maintaining an inviting and safe environment in public park facilities. This opportunity is ideal for individuals seeking steady employment within a respected organization dedicated to public service.
