The Athletic Trainer position at Methodist Childrens Home is a critical role dedicated to ensuring the health, safety, and performance of student-athletes involved in the agencys sports programs. This full-time role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $26.50 to $30.82 and requires physical presence during regular business hours, with occasional additional hours, weekend, holiday, and travel commitments. The Athletic Trainer will serve as the primary healthcare professional overseeing the care, prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for student-athletes under the program. They will also be responsible for coordinating physical examinations and maintaining meticulous treatment records to ensure compliance with medical protocols and agency standards. An integral aspect of the role is the implementation of an injury and illness prevention program designed to minimize risks during practices and competitions. The Athletic Trainer must demonstrate expertise in therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation equipment usage to effectively manage the reconditioning process following injury. This professional collaborates closely with coaches, the Director of Athletics, medical personnel, and staff to promote a safe sports environment. Furthermore, the Athletic Trainer is expected to apply the Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) framework developed by Texas Christian University, which emphasizes relational and trauma-informed care to engage youth with behavioral challenges and traumatic histories successfully. This position demands intellectual and emotional maturity, strong communication skills, problem-solving ability, and the capability to maintain ethical and compassionate engagement with youth and colleagues alike. The Athletic Trainer will also oversee inventory and inspection of protective sports equipment, supervise internship placements, and ensure that all facilities and equipment are clean, safe, and well-maintained in compliance with licensing and accreditation standards. Additional responsibilities include planning training schedules, providing nutritional guidance, attending practices and contests, and fulfilling administrative duties tied to the athletic training program. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field
- valid license from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
- ability to work more than 40 hours per week including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- must be at least 21 years of age
- valid Texas Driver's License with excellent driving record
- no criminal history
- acceptable references
- ability to travel out of town and overnight
- ability to use personal automobile for work with mileage reimbursement
- completion of mandatory training annually
- strong intellectual and emotional maturity
- ability to follow agency policies and maintain ethical standards
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field
- valid license from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
- certification by the Board of Certification (NATABOC) preferred
- knowledge of Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) techniques
- ability to work with youth with behavioral, developmental, mental health and trauma-related challenges
- effective communication and problem-solving skills
- ability to maintain professional and ethical behavior consistent with agency values
- experience in therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation equipment use
- ability to coordinate care and maintain detailed medical records
- supervisory skills for internship placements
Job Duties
- Serve as primary athletic trainer for all sports as assigned by the Director of Athletics
- Provide care, prevention, evaluation, emergency treatment, physical reconditioning and rehabilitation of injuries to student athletes
- Plan and implement a comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention program for student athletes
- Ensure established protocols of care for injured student athletes are followed
- Demonstrate knowledge and proper use in the application of therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation equipment in the appropriate treatment and/or rehabilitation of athletic injuries
- Assist the Director of Athletics with the inspection of athletic equipment and facilities to ensure a safe environment for student athletes during practices and competition
- Attend pre- and post-practice meetings, practices, and athletic contests as assigned by the Director of Athletics
- Provide pre- and post-practice and event treatments and preventative measures including taping, stretching and meal planning for proper nutrition and hydration
- Assist the Director of Athletics in developing training schedules for student athletes
- Establish and maintain effective communication with students, coaches, medical personnel, and other staff
- Arrange for injury and illness treatment by MCH clinic staff and other physicians as necessary
- Maintain complete, accurate and detailed medical records for all student athletes
- Coordinate and ensure all student athletes are up to date on all physical examinations and screenings
- Assist with the overall management of sports medicine program and manage the athletic training room operations
- Provide supervision and support to athletic training internship placements
- Maintain compliance with agency policies/procedures and licensing and accreditation standards
- Ensure equipment and facilities are clean, properly maintained and used safely
- Work collaboratively in a proactive and positive manner with other departments
- Ensure all facilities and equipment are clean, organized and maintained
