Job Description

Gadsden Independent School District is a public school district located in the state of New Mexico. It is committed to providing quality education and fostering a positive development environment for its students through a variety of academic and extracurricular programs. As an organization dedicated to student growth and community engagement, the district emphasizes the importance of sportsmanship, team spirit, and student involvement in activities beyond the classroom. The district works closely with the New Mexico Activities Association to ensure all interscholastic athletic events are conducted according to state policies and standards, contributing to the holistic development of its students.

The current opening is for an Athletics Event Supervisor who will administer and direct interscholastic athletic events at an assigned campus within the district. This vital role involves close collaboration with the school's principal and the Athletic Coordinator to manage and coordinate athletic events in compliance with both district guidelines and New Mexico Activities Association regulations. This position requires hands-on oversight of all scheduled athletic events and facilities, including the scheduling, organization, and supervision of game activities for 7th and 8th grade level sports. Key responsibilities include managing ticket sales, supervising event personnel, coordinating security arrangements, and enforcing all game day policies to ensure events run smoothly and safely.

The Athletics Event Supervisor plays a critical role in promoting good sportsmanship not only among students but also among spectators and fans, thereby fostering a respectful and supportive environment during all campus athletic events. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously in a dynamic and sometimes high-pressure setting. Working hours are determined based on the supervisory needs of each sport and include attendance at every regularly scheduled game at the middle school level. Additionally, this position requires overseeing the preparation and condition of athletic facilities, ensuring they meet the standards for competition and safety prior to each event.

While this role carries significant responsibilities in overseeing various game workers such as ticket sellers, ticket takers, security personnel, and announcers, it demands strong leadership and communication skills to coordinate efforts among staff effectively. The Athletics Event Supervisor ensures that all district, state, and federal policies relevant to athletic events are properly implemented and maintained. They also perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, School Athletic Coordinator, or the District Athletic Director. This is a non-benefits eligible position and is generally filled by current district employees who demonstrate competence and dedication to supporting the school's athletic programs.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest and aptitude for managing school sports events, an ability to apply safety rules and procedural instructions effectively, and proficiency in basic mathematical operations for handling financial transactions related to ticket sales. They should possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate with students, staff, and community members, along with physical stamina to fulfill the demanding aspects of the role such as standing, walking, and occasionally lifting moderate weights. This position necessitates a calm and controlled demeanor under stress and an ability to respond flexibly to unforeseen challenges during athletic events. Overall, this role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute significantly to fostering school spirit and student development in the Gadsden Independent School District.
