The Nutrition Services Assistant position plays a vital role within MNPS by supporting the school nutrition staff to ensure that meals are prepared and served in compliance with all health and sanitation regulations. Reporting to a manager, the Nutrition Services Assistant is responsible for performing a range of semi-skilled kitchen tasks essential to delivering quality meals to students and staff. This includes preparing food items by slicing, chopping, cooking, mixing, and measuring ingredients based on daily menu guidelines. The assistant also ensures the serving lines are properly set up, clean, and stocked, offering friendly and timely service to students and teachers. Additional responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment, counters, and floors, handling supply orders, verifying deliveries, and maintaining accurate inventory records to guarantee continuous availability of necessary food and supplies. This role is hourly, nonexempt, with a pay grade designated as MNPS.SCH001-H, and requires working approximately 197 days per year.

Job Requirements

- 1-3 years work experience in food preparation preferred
- must be able to read, write and speak English

Job Duties
- Performs various semi-skilled kitchen tasks to prepare food for serving
- cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment, counters and tables, mops and sweeps floors on a daily basis in compliance with state health regulations
- prepares serving lines by filling steam table wells and arranging appropriate number of pans in correct sequence
- serves students and teachers appropriate quantities in a friendly manner as they come through serving line
- keeps serving line clean and replenished
- answers inquiries customers may have regarding content or nutritional value of food or refers to appropriate personnel if needed
- receives supply orders and verifies quantity ordered/shipped against invoices
- stores food and supplies upon receipt, updates inventory records to ensure necessary supplies are available on a continual basis
