The Nutrition Services Assistant role within MNPS is a nonexempt position classified under the MNPS Support Hourly pay grade SCH001-H, offering employment for approximately 197 days per year. This role is essential in supporting the school nutrition staff by assisting in the preparation and serving of meals in compliance with state health regulations. The assistant ensures that kitchens and serving areas are clean and sanitary, supporting the delivery of nutritious meals to students and staff. Duties encompass a range of semi-skilled kitchen tasks such as slicing, chopping, cooking, and measuring ingredients according to daily menu guidelines, along with maintaining equipment and managing supply orders. The assistant also engages directly with students and teachers by serving meals and responding to inquiries about food content or nutritional value when appropriate. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to health and safety standards, and the ability to work as part of a team to foster a positive meal experience within the schools. Fluency in English and basic food preparation experience are preferred qualifications to succeed in this role, which plays a vital part in supporting the health and well-being of the student community served by MNPS.

Job Duties
- Performs various semi-skilled kitchen tasks to prepare food for serving
- Cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment, counters and tables, mops and sweeps floors on a daily basis in compliance with state health regulations
- Prepares serving lines by filling steam table wells and arranging appropriate number of pans in correct sequence
- Serves students and teachers appropriate quantities in a friendly manner as they come through serving line
- Keeps serving line clean and replenished
- Answers inquiries customers may have regarding content or nutritional value of food or refers to appropriate personnel if needed
- Receives supply orders and verifies quantity ordered/shipped against invoices
- Stores food and supplies upon receipt, updates inventory records to ensure necessary supplies are available on a continual basis
