Dollar General Corporation is a leading retail company that has been serving communities across America for more than 80 years. Known for its commitment to providing value to shoppers, Dollar General helps customers save time and money every day by offering a wide assortment of frequently used products including food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, basic apparel, housewares, and seasonal items at everyday low prices. With thousands of convenient neighborhood locations, Dollar General continues to expand its footprint and grow its impact by delivering quality products and exceptional customer service. At Dollar General, the culture is centered on a mission of Serving Others, recognizing the unique strengths and perspectives each employee brings. This focus creates an empowering environment where employees feel valued and motivated to contribute meaningfully to the company's success and the communities they serve.
The Assistant Store Manager role at Dollar General is a pivotal position within the retail store environment, designed to support the Store Manager in ensuring all operational duties are performed efficiently and effectively with a customer-first approach. This employment opportunity is designed for individuals interested in retail management who thrive in fast-paced, community-oriented settings. The Assistant Store Manager plays a significant role in maintaining a clean, well-organized store which enhances the overall shopping experience and maximizes profitability. Responsibilities include assisting with supervision of store staff, managing merchandise presentation, conducting paperwork and financial practices such as deposit preparation, and performing cashiering functions. This role also involves active participation in stocking procedures, inventory control, and ensuring adherence to safety policies and company standards.
The Assistant Store Manager helps lead by example, fostering an environment that emphasizes superior customer service and teamwork. This is demonstrated through greeting and assisting customers, training and scheduling employees, and maintaining compliance with company operations and safety policies. The ability to open and close the store on scheduled days is essential, as is the capability to manage cash registers with accuracy, oversee inventory control to minimize damages or losses, ensure security of company assets, and support the implementation of merchandising planograms as guided by the Store Manager. This position requires dedication, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities to address the challenges that arise in a retail setting. The role demands physical activity and frequent movement within the store as well as some driving responsibilities for bank deposits and inter-store travel, requiring reliable transportation.
Dollar General values employees who are well-organized, attentive to detail, and capable of effective communication. Candidates should possess a high school diploma or equivalent with previous experience in retail and supervisory roles considered advantageous. Opportunities for career advancement are abundant as the company fosters growth pathways for employees who perform well and demonstrate leadership qualities. Dollar General is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, offering a dynamic workplace where employees' contributions truly matter and help shape the future of retail in local communities.
