Job Description

Dollar General Corporation is a prominent retail company with a legacy spanning over 80 years, dedicated to delivering exceptional value to shoppers across the United States. Known for its convenient neighborhood locations and affordable everyday prices, Dollar General carries a vast array of frequently used and replenished products including food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, basic apparel, housewares, and seasonal items. The company emphasizes a mission of 'Serving Others' and prioritizes creating a workplace where every employee's unique strengths and perspectives are valued. Dollar General offers a broad spectrum of career opportunities across its numerous stores, distribution centers, store support centers, and private fleet teams. By joining Dollar General, employees become part of a dynamic team that is committed to customer satisfaction and community engagement.

The role of Assistant Store Manager at Dollar General is essential to maintaining a clean and well-organized store environment focused on delivering superior customer service. Reporting directly to the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the supervision and management of store employees, merchandise presentation, and inventory control. This position involves a variety of responsibilities including opening and closing the store, assisting with employee scheduling and training, conducting safety meetings, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. The Assistant Store Manager is also actively involved in merchandising tasks such as receiving, unpacking, stock replenishment, and the implementation of planograms to optimize product display and store appearance.

Financial oversight is another critical aspect of this role. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for ensuring accurate cashier accountability, cash and key control, adherence to security measures, and proper financial transaction handling. This includes authorizing refunds, counting register tills, and preparing deposits for banking. The role also requires the ability to perform routine cashiering functions and generate reports. In the absence of the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager is expected to take charge and manage store operations seamlessly.

Working conditions for this position are dynamic and can be physically demanding. The role requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting merchandise and equipment, sometimes up to 55 pounds. The Assistant Store Manager must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, moderately noisy retail environment and may face occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Additionally, the role requires possessing a valid driver's license and having access to a personal vehicle to travel to banks, attend management meetings, and visit other Dollar General stores as needed.

This employment opportunity is well-suited for someone with a strong customer service orientation, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to lead a team effectively. Candidates with previous retail supervisory experience and a commitment to upholding company policies will find this role rewarding and impactful. Dollar General values inclusivity and provides equal employment opportunities, fostering a supportive and enriching workplace culture where employees’ contributions are recognized and appreciated.
