Job Description
Dollar General Corporation is a leading retail company that has been delivering consistent value to shoppers for over 80 years. Known for its commitment to helping customers save time and money every day, Dollar General operates a vast network of convenient neighborhood stores across the United States. These stores stock a wide array of essential goods that shoppers regularly use and replenish, including food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, basic apparel, housewares, and seasonal items, all offered at everyday low prices. Dollar General's dedication to service is encapsulated in its mission of 'Serving Others,' which emphasizes the importance of every employee's unique strengths and perspectives in contributing to the overall success of the company. As an employer, Dollar General values diversity, inclusion, and career growth opportunities across its various operational divisions such as Store locations, Distribution Centers, Store Support Centers, and its Private Fleet Team.
The position of Assistant Store Manager at Dollar General plays a pivotal role in maintaining the store's operational excellence and customer-centric environment. The Assistant Store Manager works closely under the direction of the Store Manager to ensure the store remains clean, well-organized, and focused on delivering superior customer service. This role involves a mixture of supervisory, operational, and administrative responsibilities aimed at maximizing store profitability while upholding high standards of customer satisfaction and protecting company assets. Key responsibilities include assisting with employee supervision, scheduling, training, and conducting safety meetings to ensure compliance with company policies and merchandising standards. The Assistant Store Manager also actively participates in stocking, cashiering, and merchandising tasks, including receiving, unpacking, and rotating inventory to maintain accurate stock levels and appealing store presentations.
This position demands a dedicated leader who can manage store operations efficiently in the absence of the Store Manager, ensuring cash handling procedures and financial integrity are strictly followed. The Assistant Store Manager also undertakes cash control responsibilities such as authorizing refunds, managing register tills, preparing bank deposits, and maintaining security protocols within the store. Given the fast-paced retail environment, this role requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to solve problems swiftly while maintaining a positive customer experience. Working conditions involve frequent physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, lifting, and occasional driving for banking and store visits. Ideal candidates will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with prior retail and supervisory experience preferred. By joining Dollar General as an Assistant Store Manager, individuals can embark on a rewarding career path within a company that not only values hard work but also supports personal and professional growth in a vibrant retail setting.
