The role of Assistant Store Manager at Dollar General is a vital position designed to support the Store Manager in maintaining an efficient, customer-focused retail environment. The Assistant Store Manager plays a key role in ensuring the store is clean, organized, and operating smoothly, all while delivering superior customer service. This position involves supervising store employees, managing and presenting merchandise in an attractive and effective manner, and handling various administrative duties including paperwork and preparation of deposits. The Assistant Store Manager also performs stocking and cashiering duties as necessary to maximize store profitability and uphold high standards of customer satisfaction. Emphasizing asset protection and loss reduction, the role demands strong leadership and organizational skills as well as a hands-on approach to store management. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • one year of retail experience preferred
  • six months of supervisory experience preferred
  • effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • ability to solve problems
  • good organization skills
  • ability to read and interpret operational documents
  • math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages
  • ability to perform cashier functions
  • knowledge of cash and safety control policies
  • valid driver's license and ability to drive own vehicle to make bank deposits

  • knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices
  • knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control
  • ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money

Job Duties

  • Provide superior customer service leadership
  • greet and assist customers
  • operate cash register and scanner to itemize purchases
  • open and close the store a minimum of two days per week
  • assist Store Manager with scheduling employees
  • provide training for employees
  • conduct safety meetings
  • ensure employee compliance with policies
  • manage merchandise including receiving, unpacking, stocking, restocking, rotating shelves, and building displays
  • maintain accurate inventory levels by controlling damages and markdowns
  • implement and maintain planograms
  • ensure merchandise presentation
  • uphold financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, cash control procedures
  • authorize and sign for refunds and overrides
  • count register tills
  • deposit money in bank
  • assist with management of the store in Store Manager's absence
