The company specializes in offering a wide variety of frequently used products, ranging from food and snacks to health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, basic apparel, housewares, and seasonal items. With thousands of convenient store locations nationwide, Dollar General makes shopping accessible, affordable, and efficient for millions of customers every day. Beyond just being a retail chain, Dollar General is driven by its mission of "Serving Others," valuing the contributions of every employee, and fostering a workplace environment that celebrates diversity and individual strengths. This philosophy supports the goal of creating meaningful careers and opportunities for growth within various departments including stores, distribution centers, private fleet operations, and support centers.
The role of Assistant Store Manager at Dollar General is a dynamic and essential position within the retail operations team. Assistant Store Managers play a pivotal role in maintaining a clean, well-organized store environment with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and service excellence. This position supports the Store Manager by assisting with the supervision of store employees, ensuring all store operations comply with company policies, and that merchandise management is executed to company standards. The Assistant Store Manager engages in hands-on responsibilities such as stocking merchandise, operating the cash register, completing paperwork, and preparing bank deposits to safeguard company assets and reduce losses.
In addition to administrative and operational duties, the Assistant Store Manager leads by example, demonstrating superior customer service and fostering a positive shopping experience. This includes opening and closing the store, scheduling and training team members, conducting safety meetings, and implementing merchandising strategies like following planograms and creating merchandise displays. The role requires keen organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective problem-solving abilities, making it both challenging and rewarding.
Those seeking this position should be prepared for a physically active work environment involving frequent walking, bending, lifting, and handling of merchandise and equipment. The role often demands the Assistant Store Manager to drive their own vehicle to make bank deposits and attend management meetings, underscoring the leadership and accountability required.
