Job Description

Dollar General Corporation is a leading retail company that has been serving customers for over 80 years. Known for providing value and convenience, Dollar General operates thousands of stores across the United States, offering a wide range of products such as food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, apparel, housewares, and seasonal items at everyday low prices. Their mission, "Serving Others," embodies the company's commitment to both customers and employees. Dollar General is more than just a retail chain; it is an organization that values the unique strengths and perspectives of each individual employee and is dedicated to fostering a work environment where everyone can thrive. The company provides career opportunities in various locations including retail stores, distribution centers, store support centers, and private fleet teams.

The role of Assistant Store Manager at Dollar General is a crucial leadership position within the retail store environment. The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in maintaining a clean, well-organized store focused on delivering outstanding customer service. This role involves supervising store employees, managing merchandise presentation, completing paperwork, and preparing deposits. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for performing stocking and cashiering tasks and other necessary duties aimed at maximizing store profitability and customer satisfaction. Protecting company assets and reducing losses are also key elements of this position.

In this capacity, the Assistant Store Manager not only ensures that the store runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis but also assists in scheduling and training staff, conducting safety meetings, and enforcing compliance with company policies and procedures. The role includes managing merchandise processes such as receiving, unpacking, stocking, restocking, rotating merchandise, and building displays according to established standards and Store Manager direction. The Assistant Store Manager helps maintain accurate inventory and ensures financial integrity by overseeing cashier accountability, adhering to security practices, managing cash controls, and preparing bank deposits.

This position requires strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and good organizational skills with attention to detail. Candidates ideally have prior retail experience and supervisory skills to support the management team effectively. The Assistant Store Manager plays an integral part in representing the company’s commitment to exceptional service, fostering a positive shopping atmosphere, and leading the team to success. This role also involves physical activities such as frequent walking, bending, lifting, and equipment handling in a fast-paced, sometimes noisy environment, with occasional exposure to weather conditions and the necessity to drive to bank or meetings.

Joining Dollar General as an Assistant Store Manager provides a rewarding opportunity to grow within a well-established retail organization that values its employees and their contributions. This role not only offers career advancement potential but also the chance to make a meaningful impact in the community by delivering value to customers every day.
