Petco is currently hiring a part-time Veterinarian for its Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospital located in Staten Island, NY. This position is a critical and immersive role within the hospital, emphasizing the delivery of exceptional quality care to patients and exemplary leadership to the medical team. The Veterinarian works closely with a dedicated and professional paraprofessional team and medical leaders who provide support and encourage skill expansion in areas like dentistry and nutrition. Equipped with high-quality technology such as ultrasound machines and heated hydraulic surgery tables, the hospital fosters an environment where veterinarians can practice advanced medicine with confidence and competence.

In this role, the Veterinarian will be responsible for offering comprehensive physical examinations, diagnosing and treating various diseases, and administering preventive care tailored to each patient’s individual needs based on their signalment, lifestyle, and environment. The position demands a problem-oriented diagnostic and treatment approach involving detailed medical records, development of thorough diagnostic plans, and performing both routine and complex surgical and dental procedures. Responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting spays, neuters, mass removals, dental examinations, extractions, and oral surgeries. The Veterinarian will also develop treatment plans for day hospitalization patients and coordinate with referral hospitals for seamless continuity of care.

Beyond patient care, the Veterinarian will play an integral role in maintaining hospital operations by participating in shift rounds, sharing veterinary knowledge to enhance team capability, and addressing client interactions compassionately and professionally. This position requires maintaining direct communication with clients, veterinary specialists, and product or service vendors. While this role does not carry direct supervisory responsibility, the Veterinarian acts as a de facto leader within the hospital team, promoting collaboration, accountability, and a culture of excellence.

Petco offers a competitive salary range from $55.50 to $88.50 per hour, depending on experience and licensure, and provides a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) plans, paid time off, and employee incentives.
