The veterinarian position at Petco’s Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospitals represents one of the most immersive and fulfilling roles within the organization. In this role, veterinarians provide comprehensive medical care, diagnosis, and treatment to pets, embracing a problem-based approach to ensure accurate diagnostics and effective treatment plans. Responsibilities encompass everything from performing routine and complex surgical procedures, including spays, neuters, mass removals, and dental surgeries, to developing treatment plans for day hospitalization and managing continuity of care through communication with referral hospitals. The position requires veterinarians to document all patient interactions and treatments meticulously, uphold high standards of care, and maintain empathy and professionalism in all interactions, even during emotionally challenging situations.

Vetco Total Care veterinarians play a key leadership role within the hospital team, contributing to a positive work environment that prioritizes teamwork, problem-solving, and shared goals. While not having direct supervisory responsibilities, veterinarians are expected to lead by example and support the hospital’s mission. The role demands excellent oral and written communication skills, current veterinary licensure and DEA and Controlled Substance licenses appropriate for the state, and completion or imminent completion of USDA Category I accreditation.
