Job Description

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is a leading pet specialty retailer that has been serving pet owners and their beloved animals for over 60 years. With more than 1,500 Petco stores across the U.S., Mexico, and Puerto Rico, alongside 250+ Vetco Total Care veterinary hospitals, hundreds of preventive care clinics, and eight distribution centers, Petco stands as a trusted name in the pet care industry. The company is deeply committed to nurturing the pet-human bond by offering a wide range of quality products, foods, toys, and expert services tailored for pets and their parents. Through its philanthropic division, Petco Love, Petco has supported thousands of local animal welfare organizations and facilitated the adoption of approximately 7 million animals. Petco’s workplace culture revolves around its core values of putting pets first, fostering fun and connection, and fostering a unified team environment, making it an ideal employer for those passionate about animal welfare and veterinary medicine.

The Veterinarian role at Petco’s Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals represents an immersive and dynamic opportunity within the veterinary profession. As a veterinarian in this role, you will provide comprehensive medical care to a diverse range of animal patients, including performing physical exams, diagnosing and treating diseases, and delivering preventive care tailored specifically to the pet’s individual needs and environment. You will utilize a problem-based approach that involves the development of detailed problem lists, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and treatment regimens based on the latest diagnostic results. Essential surgical procedures such as spays, neuters, abdominal exploratories, and mass removals will be a core part of your practice, along with advanced dental work including examinations, radiography, extractions, and oral surgeries. You will also develop treatment plans for day hospitalizations and coordinate care transitions to overnight or referral facilities when necessary.

Beyond clinical duties, the veterinarian will actively participate in hospital rounds, disseminate knowledge across the veterinary team, and contribute to raising the standard of care within the hospital. The position fosters a collaborative, respectful work environment where you will receive supervision and guidance from hospital medical leaders while maintaining professional discretion in patient care decisions. The Vetco Total Care environment uses advanced veterinary equipment, such as in-house ultrasound and heated hydraulic surgery tables, supporting your ability to provide high-quality care.

This full-time, on-site veterinarian position is located at 10190 W. McDowell Rd, Avondale, AZ 85323. It is ideal for a motivated veterinary professional who thrives in a team-oriented setting, embraces continuous learning, and seeks to make a meaningful impact on pet health and owner satisfaction. Exceptional communication, compassion, problem-solving skills, and the ability to maintain professionalism in emotionally charged situations are essential. Petco offers a nurturing workplace where your unique veterinary practice style is valued, and your growth and success are celebrated. This role offers a rewarding career path in veterinary medicine within a well-established and supportive company dedicated to improving the lives of pets and their families.
