With a commitment to inclusivity, public service, and safety, the museum offers a welcoming environment for visitors and employees alike. It values diversity and fosters a culture of collaboration and excellence throughout its operations. As part of its mission, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art strives to provide enriching experiences through exhibitions, events, and educational programs that stimulate creativity and learning.
The Associate, Event Services position at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art plays a crucial role in supporting the successful execution of both internal and external events hosted at the museum. This role is responsible for general maintenance functions, the setup and teardown of event spaces, and assisting the janitorial department with special projects. The position requires careful coordination to ensure that all event spaces are prepared according to specifications, including the arrangement of tables, chairs, and decorations, as well as handling audio-visual equipment. The Associate must maintain a clean and welcoming environment by vacuuming floors, cleaning furniture and walls, and managing the proper storage of equipment such as risers and buffets. This is a part-time position with a scheduled workweek that includes Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 9 am to 5 pm, and Saturdays from 12 pm to 9 pm, with Mondays and Tuesdays off. The pay range for this role is between $16.24 and $17.56 per hour, reflecting the museum’s recognition of the valuable contributions of its staff. The Associate must be physically capable of frequently lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods. A key aspect of the role is ensuring the event spaces meet temperature and lighting requirements, creating a comfortable ambiance for guests. Working at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art means joining a mission-driven team dedicated to excellence, care, and a supportive workplace culture that values employee wellness and development.
