Job Description
SpartanNash, a proud member of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family of companies, stands as a leading food solutions provider committed to delivering the ingredients that contribute to a better life. As a diverse distributor, wholesaler, and retailer, SpartanNash operates with a robust global supply chain network that spans across all 50 states in the U.S. The company is renowned for distributing a vast array of grocery and household goods, including fresh produce and the popular Our Family® portfolio of products. SpartanNash serves a wide spectrum of customers, including national accounts, independent and chain grocers, e-commerce retailers, U.S. military commissaries and exchanges, along with the company’s own retail grocery stores, pharmacies, and fuel centers.
With a dynamic and inclusive workforce comprising roles from bakery managers to order selectors, and IT developers to finance executives, SpartanNash prides itself on maintaining a culture of 'braggingly happy' team members who create exceptional customer experiences. This extensive and diverse team underpins the company’s commitment to serving its customers with excellence and innovation.
The Associate Engagement Coordinator role at SpartanNash is a vital position focused on fostering a people-first culture through proactive employee engagement initiatives at the assigned store. This full-time role is based at the 1826 Vinton location in Omaha, Nebraska. The position emphasizes managing the employment life cycle within the store environment—from recruitment and hiring through orientation, training, and retention. This coordinator acts as the linchpin in ensuring seamless hiring processes, effective onboarding, consistent compliance, and robust communication strategies that heighten employee satisfaction and engagement.
Key responsibilities include full ownership of the recruiting process managed via Workday, orchestrating interviews and hiring events in collaboration with store leadership and HR business partners, and managing first 90 days of new hires to promote early retention and engagement. The role demands oversight of store-level compliance, including timely processing of terminations, I-9 verification, work permits for minors, and excluding scheduling and workforce management system reporting. In addition to these administrative functions, the Associate Engagement Coordinator curates and sustains engagement programs and recognition initiatives that encourage morale and a positive work environment on a daily, weekly, and periodic basis.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and excellent communication skills are necessary, as is the ability to manage and enhance the associate experience through the upkeep of break rooms, training areas, and offices. This position may also extend to acting as the person-in-charge for certain aspects of weekly schedules, depending on store volume and needs. It requires a candidate capable of thriving in a fast-paced, energetic environment, applying careful attention to detail, maintaining confidentiality, and embodying SpartanNash’s core values: we serve, we have fun, we create solutions, and we win.
SpartanNash’s offerings include a comprehensive and competitive Total Rewards benefits package as part of their People First culture, underscoring their commitment to associate development, diversity, inclusion, and equal employment opportunity. This role provides an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about human resources, employee engagement, and contributing to a successful food solutions company. Candidates must be bilingual (English/Spanish) and meet physical demands typical of a retail setting, including standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to varying environmental conditions. SpartanNash is dedicated to fostering an engaging workplace where associate recognition and development are paramount, making this role ideal for those eager to make a significant impact within a respected and expansive organization.
