Job Description

Tenderloin Housing Clinic (THC) is a well-established non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable and supportive housing solutions for low-income and formerly homeless adults, particularly those facing complex challenges such as mental health and substance abuse issues. Rooted deeply in its mission, core values, and customer service philosophy, THC operates a portfolio of residential hotels and apartments. These facilities provide safe, stable, and supportive environments to improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations in need. The organization emphasizes a supportive housing model guided by harm reduction principles to create tenant-focused communities that promote wellness, retention, and dignity.

The Associate Director of Property Management at Tenderloin Housing Clinic plays a critical leadership role by overseeing both the operational and financial aspects of a diverse portfolio of residential properties. This full-time position offers an annual salary of $94,311 and requires hands-on involvement in managing property management teams and supportive housing services aligned with the agency’s goals. The role demands a strategic yet empathetic leader who can foster staff development, ensure compliance with policies and contracts, and champion tenant needs while maintaining high operational standards and tenant satisfaction. The Associate Director ensures that all properties under their management comply with company protocols and regulatory requirements, meeting the highest safety, legal, and quality standards.

Responsibilities include hiring, training, and supervising property management staff to deliver exemplary customer service and operational excellence. The incumbent leads efforts to enhance departmental functions through the development of systems and procedures that facilitate program growth and measurable outcomes. Collaboration across departments is key to providing comprehensive tenant services, including tenancy management, rent collection, and eviction prevention, all within a framework informed by a thorough understanding of eviction law and tenancy rights.

The role also requires regular interaction with tenants to build rapport and resolve concerns, as well as participation in tenant meetings and community events to strengthen community relations. The Associate Director must be adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, with attention to detail and the ability to produce analytical reports and correspondence. This position also involves oversight of budgetary guidelines and expenditure approvals, ensuring financial prudence and transparency.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Social Work, or a related field, with a preference for advanced degrees and relevant certifications such as the California Certified Residential Manager designation. At least three years of experience in staff management and property operations, preferably in a nonprofit and/or supportive housing context, is required. The position demands strong interpersonal skills, conflict resolution abilities, and a proactive attitude, along with demonstrated capacity to work effectively under minimal supervision. Background checks and screenings are mandatory for employment, reflecting the responsibility entrusted to this role.

Tenderloin Housing Clinic values individuals who align with its mission and exhibit passion, maturity, dependability, and accountability. Those who succeed in this position are self starters with excellent communication, time management, and leadership capabilities, committed to fostering respectful and empowering environments for both staff and tenants. This is a unique opportunity for professionals dedicated to making a measurable impact in the supportive housing sector while advancing their careers within a respected non-profit organization.
