Job Description

The university is currently seeking an Associate Director of Events & Guest Services to join the Arkansas Union department. This role is a key leadership position responsible for the strategic direction, operational oversight, and administrative leadership of events and guest services within one of the most active and bustling buildings on campus. The Arkansas Union serves as a central hub for student activities, events, and community engagement, making the Associate Director's role critical to ensuring exceptional service delivery and operational excellence.
In this position, the Associate Director will be responsible for managing event reservations, coordinating event logistics and production services, and overseeing guest relations. They will have significant financial oversight responsibilities, including managing budgeting and billing functions for both the Event and Guest Services units. The role requires supervision of a large, high-volume service team composed of professional staff and student employees to maintain high-quality experiences reflective of the Arkansas Union’s mission and the Division of Student Affairs’ values.
As a senior leader within the Arkansas Union, the Associate Director acts as the Director's representative during their absence and collaborates closely with university stakeholders to enhance student success, community participation, and programmatic quality. The position demands strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, and proficiency in managing complex operations and multiple teams. The Associate Director must also possess a deep understanding of risk management best practices, including emergency preparedness, risk mitigation, and event safety.
This is a regular, day-shift, non-workstudy position with a competitive salary of $67,909, commensurate with education and experience. The role requires reliable attendance and the flexibility to work outside normal hours, including evenings and weekends, when necessary to support union operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in event and facility management, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of campus and community partners. The position also involves active contribution to a healthy work-life balance culture supported by the University of Arkansas’s comprehensive benefits package.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Four years of experience in relevant fields
- Two years working with event/reservations systems
- Two years of supervisory experience
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Reliable and nondisruptive attendance
- Knowledge of risk management
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in hospitality management, student affairs, business administration, or related field
- At least four years of progressively responsible experience in event management, student union operations, hospitality, or related areas
- At least two years of experience with event and reservations management systems such as EMS, Mazevo, or 25Live
- At least two years of staff supervision experience
- Master's degree in higher education, hospitality management, project management, or related field preferred
- Experience in a university or student union setting preferred
- Hands-on experience with AV/production services, customer service training, or large-scale events preferred
- Knowledge of risk management best practices
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly, including nights and weekends
Job Duties
- Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all Arkansas Union events and guest-facing operations
- Oversee budget and billing for Event and Guest Services units
- Manage daily operations of a large, high-volume service team
- Coordinate reservations, event setup, production services, and guest relations
- Act as a key member of the Arkansas Union leadership team and serve as Director's representative in their absence
- Collaborate with campus partners to support student success and community engagement
- Ensure compliance with risk management and safety protocols
