Job Description

The Metropolitan Council is the regional government authority serving the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area in Minnesota. Our mission is to plan ahead for the metropolitan region's growth and provide critical services that enhance the quality of life for its residents. Our comprehensive planning efforts stretch 30 years into the future, encompassing essential regional transportation, wastewater management, and housing services designed to meet the evolving needs of the community. As an established government entity, the Metropolitan Council fosters a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity, reflecting the vibrant and diverse communities we serve throughout the Twin Cities. Metro Transit, a division of the Metropolitan Council, stands as one of the country's largest and most comprehensive transit systems. With a workforce exceeding 3,000 dedicated employees, Metro Transit delivers more than 80 million rides annually through a well-integrated network of buses, light rail, and commuter trains, along with innovative resources that support carpooling, vanpooling, walking, and biking in the metro area.

The role of Associate Community Outreach Coordinator at Metro Transit is pivotal in strengthening our community engagement and outreach initiatives, specifically within our Instruction Center. This position serves as a crucial support function in coordinating programs that prepare and assist community members, particularly bus operator trainees, in acquiring their Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). The Associate Community Outreach Coordinator facilitates study sessions, coordinates program logistics, and provides tailored coaching and guidance to trainees, enhancing their readiness for licensing and employment with Metro Transit. Committed to fostering an accessible and supportive environment, this position requires deep familiarity with Driver and Vehicle Service requirements to ensure compliance and successful program outcomes. Moreover, this role involves close collaboration with Instruction Center management, Human Resources, and community stakeholders to maintain robust communication channels and to support Metro Transit's mission of delivering efficient and equitable transportation solutions for the Twin Cities region.

The Associate Community Outreach Coordinator position offers a meaningful opportunity to impact the public transportation landscape by empowering new transit operators within a dedicated government framework focused on regional planning and sustainability. Candidates for this role must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin and will be joining a team that values professionalism, community connection, and proactive engagement. This posting establishes a six-month eligibility list for current and future openings, signaling ongoing efforts to attract talented individuals committed to public service and community development. This role demands flexibility, including the ability to work occasional nights and weekends as required to meet the needs of the program and our community outreach goals. By supporting bus operator application preparation and facilitating study programs, the Associate Community Outreach Coordinator directly contributes to the effective operation and growth of Metro Transit’s workforce and service quality, influencing the broader transit ecosystem in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
