Job Description
The Main Hospital Building, located on the first floor, is a part of a comprehensive healthcare facility dedicated to ensuring quality care and patient satisfaction through various support services, including nutrition. Nutrition Services Department plays an integral role in delivering healthy, safe, and nutritious meals to patients, visitors, and staff, contributing directly to the overall healing and wellness environment of the hospital. The department focuses on maintaining high standards of food safety, sanitation, and customer service, while also addressing the unique dietary needs of hospital patients.
This role is responsible for producing and serving meals within retail, patient service, sanitation, or food production environments in the Nutrition Services Department. The individual in this position ensures that food preparation, serving, and sanitation processes meet specified quality and safety standards, thereby upholding the hospital's commitment to exceptional nutritional care. The position emphasizes the importance of effective communication with unit staff about food service needs and the accurate collection and transport of soiled trays and dishes for cleaning. Moreover, this role requires the employee to be proactive in self-education through mandated in-service training and relevant study materials to continuously enhance performance and compliance with the department's protocols.
Candidates for this role do not need prior experience or formal education, making it an accessible entry point for those interested in pursuing a career in hospital nutrition services. However, the successful applicant must obtain a certificate of completion for a food handler training course accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or the Texas Department of State Health Services (TXDSHS) within 60 days of placement. This requirement emphasizes the critical nature of food safety knowledge in this position.
Employees in this position should be able to read and write proficiently and follow detailed instructions correctly. They also need to demonstrate an understanding of food service and sanitation procedures within three months of employment. Effective communication skills and basic computer operation abilities are essential to perform the expected duties efficiently. Adherence to quality assurance and infection prevention standards is critical, alongside maintaining high satisfaction ratings through excellent service delivery.
Working in this role means being part of a dedicated team that supports hospital patients directly with their nutritional needs. Through hands-on meal production, service, and sanitation efforts, the employee contributes to the hospital's mission of providing compassionate and quality healthcare services. This position offers valuable experience in food service within the healthcare sector and lays the foundation for further career growth within the hospitality or healthcare food service industries.
