Job Description
Bezos Academy is a nonprofit network of tuition-free, high-quality preschools inspired by Montessori principles, dedicated to serving under-resourced communities. Founded with a mission to ensure every child has access to an exceptional early education experience, Bezos Academy focuses on nurturing each child's natural curiosity and fostering independent learning through carefully designed environments and well-trained teachers. The organization operates several campuses, providing communities with safe, welcoming spaces for children ages 3 to 5 to thrive, grow, and develop foundational skills necessary for lifelong success.
Currently, Bezos Academy is seeking part-time Assistant Teachers (Float), internally titled Assistant Teacher I, to join their dedicated team in Mesa, Arizona. These roles emphasize support within classrooms and broader school operations, such as supervising mealtimes and transitions, maintaining family and child records, and assisting with the setup and upkeep of learning environments. The Assistant Teacher Float position requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week, spread across four-hour daily shifts from Monday through Friday, with expected schedules from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at two Mesa locations: Adobe Hills and Greenfield Estates. Compensation for this role ranges from $19 to $22 per hour, with all new hires starting at $19 per hour. The position is hourly and non-exempt, suitable for individuals seeking flexible, part-time work with meaningful impact.
In this role, Assistant Teachers offer the essential support needed to ensure each classroom operates smoothly and meets state licensing and Montessori training requirements. They act as floating aides, moving between classrooms and activities as needed by school leadership to maintain safe, engaging, and nurturing spaces. Responsibilities include supervising children independently during various parts of the day, assisting with meal service and cleanup, supporting children’s independence with daily living tasks, and maintaining overall classroom order and safety. Assistant Teachers will also complete required Montessori basics training and credentialing within seven days of hire, ensuring they uphold the high standards of Bezos Academy’s educational model.
Bezos Academy values individuals who demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and strong communication skills, all vital to supporting the dynamic environment of early childhood education. Preference is given to candidates with prior experience in childcare or early education settings, especially those familiar with Montessori or similar pedagogical approaches. Ideal candidates also possess the ability to foster inclusivity and create welcoming environments for children and families from diverse backgrounds.
As part of its commitment to its staff and community, Bezos Academy offers benefits such as paid sick time accrued based on hours worked and a 401(k) plan with a 4% employer match to support employees’ financial well-being. The organization fosters a collaborative, supportive workplace culture, providing ongoing professional development opportunities and promoting inclusive values. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven educational organization while building meaningful experience in early childhood education.
