This role specifically involves working as a vital part of the store leadership team, primarily focused on front-end operations and customer service excellence. The selected associate will be responsible for ensuring that all crew members deliver an outstanding customer experience by adhering to the B.E.S.T. customer service philosophy. This includes training employees on this approach to guarantee every guest enjoys a fast, friendly, and satisfying checkout experience. The role demands strong leadership to achieve and sustain customer service score goals as directed by the District Manager, reinforcing Five Below’s brand promise.
In addition to coaching and supervising the crew, the position involves overseeing front-end merchandising — including items like candy, soda, and snacks — to ensure displays meet or exceed Five Below’s brand standards. Practical responsibilities include managing opening and closing procedures, maintaining cleanliness and orderly recovery on the sales floor, and ensuring all front-end equipment is functional and associates are knowledgeable about incorporating relevant services.
The role also requires stepping in for the Store Manager as needed, showcasing the breadth of responsibility and trust placed in this position. Close collaboration with the Store Manager ensures that recruitment, training, coaching, and development efforts align with overall store objectives. Further duties include responding timely and effectively to corporate communications, participating in merchandising and World Recovery operations, and performing essential maintenance tasks such as cleaning and stocking.
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, creativity, multitasking ability, and composure under pressure. The position requires frequent physical activity such as operating cash registers, handling merchandise up to 25 pounds, ascending ladders, and continuous movement across the sales and stock areas. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary to accommodate varied store hours, including evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight shifts or travel.

Job Duties
- Ensures all crew members are wowing the customer through personal contact with customers
- trains the crew on the B.E.S.T. customer service experience
- responsible for leading their assigned store to achieve and maintain customer service score goals provided by the District Manager
- responsible for leading front end operations, ensuring front end merchandising (candy, soda, snacks) are set and meet or exceed brand standards
- ensures that all front-end equipment is in working order and associates are trained to include services where applicable
- responsible for opening and closing procedures, maintaining the store cleanliness, recovery, and keeping their store ready for customers at all times
- responsible for performing store manager duties in their absence
- partners with the store manager to recruit, train, coach, develop and supervise all crew members
- reviews all corporate communications and reacts accordingly
- partners with the entire store leadership team in merchandising procedures and world recovery
- performs store maintenance including but not limited to taking out garbage, sweeping, cleaning bathrooms, maintaining stock room
- additional responsibilities determined by the store manager as dictated by store needs
