Job Description

The Salvation Army is a well-established international charitable organization known for its dedication to improving lives and supporting communities in need. Founded on the principles of Christian evangelism and humanitarian aid, The Salvation Army operates numerous programs worldwide that provide services such as disaster relief, rehabilitation, homeless shelters, and hunger alleviation. One of its key initiatives in the United States is the Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC), which offers no-fee rehabilitation programs to help men and women overcome addiction and regain their independence. The ARC is staffed by committed employees who play a vital role in supporting the program’s mission and ensuring its ongoing effectiveness and success. The organization deeply values the diligence and devotion of its workforce, recognizing their impact on the lives of program participants and the broader community.

The Salvation Army's retail arm, including the Seaside Thrift Store, is an essential component of its fundraising and rehabilitation efforts. Retail operations generate vital revenue that directly supports the ARC and its participants, while providing affordable goods to the local community. The Retail Sales Associate and Material Handler position at the ARC Seaside Thrift Store offers a unique opportunity for individuals to contribute meaningfully to this cause. This full-time role, offering a competitive pay rate of $21 per hour along with full benefits, seeks candidates who are enthusiastic about customer service, teamwork, and community engagement.

The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated retail team that promotes the positive shopping and donor experience. This role involves direct interaction with customers and donors, ensuring their needs are met and any concerns are addressed promptly to maintain strong community relations. The individual will assist the Store Manager in the daily operations of the store, stepping in as acting manager when necessary to oversee store functions, lead team meetings, and ensure compliance with organizational policies. Responsibilities include supervising staff performance, coordinating training programs, and ensuring the store operates at the highest merchandising and safety standards.

Physical demands are integral to this role, requiring the ability to perform various movements such as walking, standing, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and operating equipment like cash registers and material handling carts. The position also requires a valid driver’s license and passing a thorough background check, reflecting the importance of responsibility and trustworthiness in maintaining a safe and secure retail environment. Working in this role means upholding The Salvation Army's mission to "Do The Most Good," contributing to the spiritual and physical upliftment of individuals engaged in the rehabilitation program while enhancing the overall success and reputation of the thrift store.

Joining The Salvation Army as a Retail Sales Associate and Material Handler provides a fulfilling career path where employees experience personal growth, professional development, and the satisfaction of making a tangible difference in the lives of others. Candidates who are dedicated, detail-oriented, and motivated to lead and serve will find this opportunity enriching and aligned with their values. The Salvation Army is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity and inclusion, welcoming qualified applicants regardless of veteran status or disabilities. This is a chance to grow within a respected nonprofit organization while offering invaluable support to a deserving community.
