Job Description

Insomnia Cookies is a renowned bakery and delivery company that originated from a simple college dorm room idea by Seth Berkowitz over 20 years ago. Today, it stands as a beloved brand recognized nationwide for its warm, delicious cookie delivery service that operates throughout the day and late into the night. With over 300 stores worldwide and a flagship concept store in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Insomnia Cookies has successfully built a loyal following of cookie enthusiasts who appreciate the brand’s sweet and innovative approach to bakery operations. The company also boasts a growing nationwide shipping and gifting portfolio, marking it as a leader in the bakery industry with a focus on exceptional customer experience and product quality. The company culture emphasizes creativity, rapid growth, and operational excellence while fostering a fun and fast-paced work environment.

The Assistant Bakery Operations Manager (ABOM) role at the KU store located at 1401 W 23 Street, Lawrence KS 6604, serves as a crucial leadership development position designed to prepare individuals to become future Bakery Operations Managers. The ABOM operates at a near-BOM level, managing bakery operations with urgency, precision, and accountability. This role demands a blend of hands-on operational tasks, talent development, administrative responsibilities, and team leadership. Acting as a direct extension of the Bakery Operations Manager, ABOMs must be ready to take full ownership of the bakery operations when needed.

The position requires the ABOM to execute key bakery functions such as inventory rotation, staffing coordination, scheduling support, and ensuring strict adherence to quality, food safety, and guest experience standards. They are instrumental in supporting ordering processes, maintaining inventory accuracy, and controlling product shrinkage. Integral to the role is also embracing talent development duties—recruiting, onboarding, training, coaching, and providing real-time feedback to team members to build a solid, accountable, and growth-oriented culture.

Leadership and operational ownership is a significant facet of the ABOM role. The ABOM must independently manage bakery operations during the absence of the BOM, model behaviors such as urgency and operational discipline, and collaborate with area leadership to address operational gaps. This leadership pipeline role is critical to ensuring continuity of operations during staffing fluctuations and maintaining a high standard of bakery performance. Success in this role is measured by the ability to manage administrative and operational duties at a BOM level, maintain full staffing and training standards, uphold a culture of accountability, and demonstrate readiness for upward advancement.

This position offers a competitive pay structure with bonus eligibility and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and pet insurance. Employees enjoy paid vacation, wellness days, and unique perks such as free cookies every shift and a dynamic, supportive team culture. The ABOM role at Insomnia Cookies is ideal for individuals passionate about bakery operations, team leadership, and career growth within an innovative, fast-paced environment dedicated to delighting cookie lovers.
