Job Description

Insomnia Cookies is a beloved bakery and delivery brand that was founded in a college dorm room by Seth Berkowitz. Over the past 20 years, the company has grown into a cult favorite among cookie lovers, known for delivering warm and delicious cookies all day and late into the night. With more than 300 stores worldwide and a flagship experiential brand in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where the company is headquartered, Insomnia Cookies continues to revolutionize the cookie game by innovating in bakery operations, delivery service, and customer experience. The company also offers a rapidly growing nationwide shipping and gifting portfolio, bringing their unique brand of sweetness to households across the country. Insomnia Cookies is recognized not only for its high-quality products but also for its strong culture, commitment to operational excellence, and focus on team development and leadership growth.

The Assistant Bakery Operations Manager (ABOM) role at Insomnia Cookies is a critical leadership pipeline position designed to develop the next generation of Bakery Operations Managers. This role demands operational excellence, leadership skills, and administrative ownership while providing hands-on experience running bakery operations. The ABOM operates closely alongside the Bakery Operations Manager (BOM), acting as a true extension of their leadership. The role is multifaceted, blending proactive operational execution with talent development and team leadership responsibilities. ABOMs are expected to manage operational tasks with urgency, accuracy, and accountability while building the essential leadership skills needed to eventually run a bakery independently.

Key responsibilities include executing core bakery operations such as inventory rotation, schedule support, staffing coordination, and completing administrative checklists. The ABOM ensures strict adherence to product quality, cleanliness, food safety, and exceptional guest experience standards. They support ordering, inventory accuracy, and shrink control to optimize operational efficiency. Additionally, the ABOM assists in schedule creation and labor execution to meet defined operational targets. From a talent development perspective, the ABOM supports recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training new staff members while delivering consistent coaching and real-time performance feedback. They hold team members accountable to standards and foster a growth mindset culture to drive continuous improvement.

In leadership and ownership, the Assistant Bakery Operations Manager steps up to independently manage bakery operations in the absence of the BOM, modeling urgency, accountability, and operational discipline. They collaborate with BOM and area leadership to identify operational gaps, implement solutions, and maintain continuity during leadership transitions or staffing shortages. Success in this role means the bakery is fully staffed, trained, and operating at high standards. The ABOM acts as a dependable operational leader during any coverage scenario and demonstrates clear readiness and upward mobility toward the BOM role. This position offers competitive pay with bonus eligibility, medical/dental/vision and pet insurance, paid vacation and wellness days, career development opportunities, free cookies every shift, and the chance to work in a fun, fast-paced team culture at a rapidly growing company focused on "Imagining What’s Possible."
