Job Description
Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building stronger communities. It operates retail stores across the San Francisco Bay Area, including the location at 4631 Mission Street in San Francisco, California. Goodwill’s mission focuses on ending unemployment by providing no-cost career development, training, and education services to help individuals build better lives for themselves and their families. This mission is supported through the retail store operations that serve as funding sources for these vital community services. Goodwill is recognized not only for its social impact but also for its commitment to fostering an inclusive, welcoming workplace where team strength and success are highly valued. The organization emphasizes core values such as trust, collaboration, engagement, ownership, and innovation, all of which shape its organizational culture and operating philosophy.
This position is a full-time role within the retail operations team at Goodwill’s San Francisco Bay store on Mission Street. The Store Manager role involves leading daily operations on the sales floor and supporting the production room as needed. The position is critical in advancing Goodwill's mission by managing store functions that include people leadership, customer service, financial oversight, inventory control, donation processing, and team training and development. The pay range for this role starts at $70,304 annually, with eligibility for a monthly performance bonus of up to $1,000 contingent upon meeting specific performance goals.
The Store Manager must develop and execute plans to meet daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual targets related to revenue, operating income, and production. Managing product levels across different categories such as floor merchandise, as-is stock, recycling, trash management, and seasonal back stock is essential to achieve sales budget goals. The Store Manager ensures that payroll and operating costs are controlled within budget to maintain financial health. Ensuring excellent customer service delivery by the team and strategic resolution of customer situations are vital components of this role.
In addition to running smooth store operations, this position requires the Store Manager to embody Goodwill’s brand by maintaining clean and welcoming store environments. The manager partners with local businesses and community organizations as an ambassador for Goodwill, helping to promote its mission broadly. Key responsibilities also include acting as a key holder, closing shift manager, and supporting the Store Manager when necessary. Handling complex sales transactions, including returns, and ensuring team compliance with company standards and procedures are also part of the daily scope.
The role includes some travel to other Goodwill stores for assistance and training purposes, and flexibility is required as transfers between stores may be necessary based on business needs. Collaboration with other corporate support departments such as Asset Protection, Human Resources, Safety, Finance, and Learning & Development is necessary to ensure compliance and to drive business goals. Building a high-performing team through consistent performance management strategies, coaching, discipline, and professional development is a core expectation.
Working at Goodwill is more than a job; it is a chance to be part of a transformative process that supports workforce reintegration and community impact. Goodwill offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a retirement fund, commuter benefits, flexible healthcare spending accounts, professional development training, and an employee assistance program focused on mental health and well-being. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about retail management, community service, and making a tangible impact through their work.
