Job Description
Ross Stores, Inc., often known simply as Ross, is a leading off-price retail chain with over 2,200 stores across the United States. Headquartered in Dublin, California, with several buying offices in major markets including New York City, Los Angeles, and Boston, Ross is recognized as a Fortune 500 company with a remarkable 2025 revenue of $22.8 billion. The company has a well-established reputation for offering customers a continuous stream of high-quality brand merchandise and on-trend products at extraordinary savings. This creates an exciting and enjoyable ‘treasure hunt’ experience for their shoppers. Ross is not only focused on excellence in merchandise and value but also deeply committed to fostering an inclusive, diverse, and supportive work environment for its team members. The organization prioritizes success, career growth, teamwork, and community engagement, emphasizing diversity, equality, inclusion, and continuous learning opportunities for all employees.
Ross is currently seeking an Assistant Store Manager to join their dynamic and thriving retail environment. This management position plays a critical role in supporting store operations by supervising and managing all areas assigned by the Store Manager. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with company policies related to customers, associates, and merchandising. The role serves as a key leader in the store, stepping in to lead the entire store operation in the absence of the Store Manager, thereby ensuring that company standards and best practices are consistently met and maintained.
The Assistant Store Manager position demands strong leadership and organizational skills. They oversee daily operations including scheduling, payroll administration, store merchandising, loss prevention, customer service, safety compliance, and associate development. The role involves actively participating in recruiting, hiring, and training non-exempt associates to foster a motivated and skilled team. The Assistant Store Manager also plays a vital role in expense control by managing payroll within budgets and adjusting schedules according to business trends. Maintaining a safe and secure store environment is a top priority, and the Assistant Manager ensures all associates understand and execute emergency procedures while upholding safety policies.
Customer service excellence is fundamental to the role, with the Assistant Store Manager responsible for supervising, coaching, and motivating retail associates to provide courteous, friendly, and professional service at various customer touchpoints such as registers, fitting rooms, and customer service desks. They are expected to uphold and model the Ross brand’s professional appearance and operational standards, ensuring a clean, well-organized, and inviting shopping environment.
Additionally, the Assistant Store Manager oversees merchandise processing and in-store marketing, ensuring that product recovery, sizing, markdowns, and presentations meet company guidelines and timelines. Loss prevention is another critical area where the Assistant Manager supports associate training and actively participates in maintaining store integrity and inventory accuracy.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of retail management experience, demonstrate strong communication and motivational skills, and be capable of handling multiple priorities independently with sound judgment. Physical requirements include the ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and use retail store equipment. Evening and weekend availability is necessary to meet business demands. This position provides an excellent opportunity for career advancement within a highly respected retail organization committed to the growth and development of its employees.
