The Assistant Store Manager position at Columbia Sportswear is a vital role within the Store Leadership Team and supports the Store Manager in ensuring smooth and effective store operations. This role is designed for leaders who are passionate about retail management, team development, and delivering outstanding customer service. As an Assistant Store Manager, you will be instrumental in executing store strategies that boost sales, enhance customer satisfaction, and improve store profitability. Your leadership and guidance will help create a collaborative and productive work environment where associates feel motivated and valued.

In this position, you will provide day-to-day coaching and direction to store supervisors and associates, assisting with hiring, training, and performance management to cultivate a high-performing team. You will also be responsible for maintaining inventory levels and ensuring effective replenishment and shrink control. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple operational aspects concurrently. By supporting the Store Manager in developing and implementing action plans, you will contribute directly to achieving store sales goals, ensuring safety standards, and promoting staff development.

Job Requirements

  • No specific education required (High School Diploma or GED preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in position or specialization
  • Skill operating a Point of Sales (POS) system, other in-store computerized systems, and telephone
  • Ability to use judgment to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems
  • Effective communication skills
  • able to exchange ideas and information with the store leadership team, associates, and consumers

Job Duties

  • Provide leadership and direction to store staff including supervisors and associates
  • Execute and support plans to enhance employee productivity and performance
  • Assist the Store Manager in interviewing, hiring, training, and coaching staff as necessary
  • Provide coaching and direction on a day-to-day basis to ensure staff performance standards are met
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels through effective replenishment, organization, shrink control, and communication
  • Assist the Store Manager with the development and implementation of action plans to address any issues relating to store sales, goals, safety, training, and personnel development
