The Assistant Club Manager in Training (AMIT) role at BJ's Wholesale Club is an extraordinary leadership opportunity designed to cultivate future leaders who will oversee critical club functions. Reporting directly to the Club Manager, the AMIT plays a pivotal role in driving club performance and operational excellence, with a specialization in managing departments such as Merchandising, Perishables, or Member Experience. This training position focuses on developing strong leadership competencies, business acumen, and operational skills to prepare individuals to step into Assistant Club Manager roles. The AMIT is responsible for ensuring the consistent application of company policies, maintaining a positive and engaging member service environment, and upholding BJ's high standards of club condition and presentation known as Grand Opening Look Daily (GOLD).

As a leader in training, the AMIT develops talent by coaching and mentoring team members while fostering a growth-oriented culture based on collaboration and empowerment. This role is responsible for overseeing audit compliance, coordinating training, and maintaining certifications to ensure food safety and operational integrity within the club. The AMIT serves as Manager on Duty when assigned, managing club operations and team leadership during shifts to guarantee smooth and efficient member service. Important certifications such as ServSafe Food Safety Certification and potentially a forklift license or Department of Agriculture qualifier certification (for Florida locations) are mandatory and supported by the company through training and expense coverage.

The role demands a strong focus on leadership capabilities including strategic decision-making, effective communication, and building high-performing teams focused on delivering outstanding results. The AMIT supports recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, sales optimization, shrink control, member satisfaction, and compliance with safety regulations. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of management experience in retail, supermarket, or warehouse operations
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to manage and develop teams effectively
  • Knowledge of shrink control and inventory management
  • Valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to operate a forklift and maintain certification
  • Availability for open shifts
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
  • Must maintain a consistent, predictable attendance record

Job Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience as a retail store, supermarket, or warehouse operations manager
  • A strong drive for results and solid work ethic
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Solid understanding of shrink controls, staff development, merchandising, customer service, problem solving, and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities including managing cross-functional teams and training team members
  • Knowledge of store operations, membership, front-line, gas station, tire bay, maintenance, receiving, and omni procedures
  • Completion of company training program preferred
  • High school diploma and/or college degree preferred
  • Basic computer knowledge (MS Word, MS Excel, Email)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain ServSafe certification
  • Forklift operator required
  • Open shift availability required
  • At least 18 years of age
