The role of Assistant Store Manager at Kroger is critical in supporting the store manager and all store associates to achieve excellence in store operations and customer service. This role requires the Assistant Store Manager to assist store management and associates in providing a favorable shopping experience to customers while fostering a culture of customer service excellence. They are responsible for leading teams, assisting in planning and implementing merchandising and operating initiatives, and responding proactively to competitive challenges within the district. They play a pivotal role in executing action plans based on feedback such as Associate Insight survey results and work collaboratively with department heads and associates to identify opportunities for improvement and achieve sales, profit, safety, and shrink goals.
Furthermore, the Assistant Store Manager supports and enforces inclusive leadership and behavior, ensures compliance with legal regulations and company policies, and fosters strong relationships with local community organizations and union representatives where applicable. They are also involved in staffing, reducing turnover, increasing retention, supervising and coaching associates, providing performance feedback, and managing labor and supply costs efficiently to meet financial targets. This full-time position demands high accountability, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to manage store operations, especially in the store manager’s absence.

Job Requirements

- 1 year of experience as department manager, service manager, or equivalent experience
- Store manager/district manager or direct manager approval

Job Duties
- Assist store manager and associates in the achievement of a favorable customer shopping experience and develop associate interest in customer service relations to enhance Kroger’s best-in-class reputation
- Assist store manager in leading teams in planning, implementing and executing merchandising and operating initiatives
- Assist store manager with developing action plans and communications to associates on Associate Insight survey results
- Work with department heads and store associates to identify store opportunities, develop timely solutions and create action plans to ensure plan implementation
- Role model and demand a highest level of customer service and solve associate, customer issues, concerns
- Manage total store operations in store manager’s absence
- Achieve and exceed weekly, period, and annual sales, wage budgets and profit budgets, as well as other targeted goals such as safety and shrink
