Job Description

Kroger is a leading retail supermarket chain renowned for its commitment to quality products, exceptional customer service, and a strong community presence. Established with a rich history of serving millions of customers across the United States, Kroger has built a reputation for providing a best-in-class shopping experience through a wide variety of products and exceptional store operations. As one of the largest grocery retailers, Kroger emphasizes values such as respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety—key pillars that define the culture and work environment at every store.

This job opening is for a Store Management team member who will learn and engage in the operations of all departments within the store, sharing responsibility for overall store performance across operations and human resources. This leadership role supports the store manager by ensuring smooth scheduling, overseeing security measures, maintaining the physical condition of the store, promoting safety, and ensuring sanitation standards are met. Additionally, this role involves executing ordering and administrative duties while supporting human resource functions vital to maintaining a productive workforce.

The person in this role will demonstrate Kroger’s core values by fostering an environment of respect and inclusion. They will assist in achieving a favorable customer experience by motivating associates to deliver outstanding service and by actively resolving customer or associate issues. The Store Management team member will play a critical role in driving sales and profitability by collaborating with department heads to implement merchandising and operating initiatives, reduce shrink, and improve overall store contribution.

In the absence of the store manager, this role will encompass total store operations management, requiring strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of store performance metrics. The individual will be involved in financial performance discussions focusing on budgets, sales targets, labor expenses, and safety goals, alongside analyzing and responding to the competitive landscape in the district or division.

Leadership here includes promoting inclusionary practices and ensuring associate behavior follows company standards. The role demands close coordination with field staff and store coordinators to execute merchandising plans effectively. Building strong relationships with local community organizations and union representatives (where applicable) also forms an important part of this role. Communication is key, as this person will need to relay essential information to associates to facilitate their responsibilities efficiently.

The ideal candidate will support efforts to reduce turnover, improve staff retention, and provide timely performance feedback to associates and department heads. Managing labor costs and supply expenses daily to meet financial and customer service targets is essential, as is ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and enterprise policies. Supervisory responsibilities include coaching and conducting performance reviews to help direct reports excel in their duties.

Overall, this Store Management position offers a dynamic, impactful career opportunity within Kroger, where the individual can help shape the customer’s shopping experience while developing operational excellence and strong team leadership in a nationally recognized retail environment.
