Job Description
Kroger is a leading retail company known for its commitment to delivering outstanding customer experiences across its stores. As a prominent player in the supermarket industry, Kroger operates a vast network of stores offering a diverse range of fresh food, groceries, pharmacy services, and household products. The company prides itself on fostering a culture grounded in core values such as respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety, creating a supportive and dynamic environment for both customers and employees.
The store management role at Kroger is pivotal in driving the overall success of the store by overseeing daily operations and ensuring high standards of service and performance. This position involves collaborating with various department heads and associates to promote efficient store functioning across all areas including human resources, security, maintenance, scheduling, safety, ordering, and administration. The store management team shares responsibility for store performance and contributes significantly to the achievement of sales targets, labor budgets, profit goals, and compliance with safety and legal regulations.
The role requires strong leadership capabilities to manage store operations in the absence of the store manager and provide direction for department teams by implementing merchandising and operating initiatives. Store managers in this position also play an essential role in enhancing team engagement through development and communication of action plans, responding to associate feedback, and fostering a positive workplace culture aligned with Kroger’s values. This includes promoting best practices in customer service, solving customer and associate concerns efficiently, and working proactively with union representatives when applicable.
One of the key aspects of the role is driving sales and reducing shrink by working closely with department managers, ensuring operational plans are executed, and maintaining a competitive edge within the district and division. Store managers support financial performance discussions with team members, focusing on development of budgets and attainment of safety and labor targets. They also encourage inclusionary leadership to cultivate a supportive and collaborative work environment.
This full-time role requires a high level of commitment to store excellence and the ability to lead by example. Candidates are expected to have experience in retail management or related fields and demonstrate the flexibility to meet the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation. Kroger offers opportunities for professional growth within a company that values diversity and inclusion, and its stores serve not only as retail environments but also as active members of their local communities, striving to maintain strong community relationships and support.
By joining Kroger as a store management team member, individuals contribute to the company’s mission to create customer-centric shopping experiences while achieving operational excellence, financial goals, and fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
