Job Description

Kroger is one of the largest retail grocery chains in the United States, recognized for its commitment to quality, customer satisfaction, and community value. As a company, Kroger places strong emphasis on operational excellence, innovative merchandising strategies, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace culture. The company is dedicated to maintaining a respectful and safe environment for both its employees and customers. Kroger is well known for its comprehensive approach to store management, aiming to ensure the highest standards of safety, sanitation, security, and customer service across all locations.

This role as an Assistant Store Manager at Kroger is a pivotal position that offers you the unique opportunity to work closely with the Store Manager and various department heads to oversee all store operations. In this position, you will be a key leader responsible for driving sales growth, managing store performance, optimizing labor costs, and enhancing the overall shopping experience for customers. You will contribute directly to meeting and exceeding sales, wage, and profit targets as well as ensuring operational compliance with federal, state, and local laws.

The Assistant Store Manager will be responsible for learning the operations of all store departments, sharing accountability for all areas including human resources, scheduling, security, maintenance, safety, sanitation, ordering, and administration. This role requires demonstrating Kroger's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety, while fostering a culture that encourages associate development and engagement. You will assist in coaching and supervising department heads and associates to improve store productivity, reduce shrink, and promote exceptional customer service.

A crucial element of this role involves participating in the planning and execution of merchandising and operational initiatives aimed at strengthening Kroger's reputation as a best-in-class retailer. You will support communication efforts regarding employee feedback surveys, developing action plans that address associate concerns and promote a positive work environment. Collaboration with union representatives and local community organizations is also part of the position to strengthen community relationships and maintain labor-management partnerships where applicable.

This position demands proactive leadership, strong communication skills, and the ability to make strategic decisions in the absence of the Store Manager. You will provide timely performance feedback to associates, conduct regular financial performance discussions, and help devise strategies to reduce turnover and increase employee retention. The role also includes managing labor and supply costs judiciously to meet customer service and financial objectives.

Being an Assistant Store Manager at Kroger entails a dynamic and rewarding career where you play a critical role in store success and customer satisfaction. This position is ideal for individuals with a background in retail management who are looking to further their leadership skills and contribute to a thriving, community-focused company.
