Job Description
Kroger is a leading retail company recognized for its commitment to providing exceptional customer experiences and fostering inclusive, respectful, and safe work environments. As one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States, Kroger operates a wide network of stores that serve diverse communities with high-quality products and services. Dedicated to core values such as respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety, Kroger continuously strives to enhance its reputation as a best-in-class retailer by prioritizing both customer satisfaction and employee well-being. The company places significant emphasis on operational excellence, human resource management, and community engagement to sustain its competitive edge and ensure sustainable growth.
The role of the Assistant Store Manager at Kroger is pivotal in supporting store leadership to achieve superior store performance in all operational areas, including merchandising, human resources, financial management, and customer service. This position involves a comprehensive understanding of all departmental functions and direct involvement in key activities such as scheduling, security, maintenance, safety protocols, sanitation standards, ordering of inventory, administrative tasks, and human resource duties. Assistant Store Managers act as role models, demonstrating Kroger's core values throughout the workday and maintaining a positive, inclusive atmosphere that encourages team cohesion and efficiency.
Central to this leadership role is the responsibility to share accountability for the overall store’s performance by assisting in driving sales growth, managing budgets, reducing shrinkage, and achieving safety and labor efficiency goals. The individual will collaborate closely with department heads and store associates to identify operational opportunities and develop actionable solutions that align with organizational objectives. Furthermore, the Assistant Store Manager facilitates communication between management and associates, provides performance feedback, and ensures store compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations. They also play an essential part in fostering strong community relationships and may be involved in collective bargaining processes if applicable.
This position requires experience in retail management, an ability to lead diverse teams effectively, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The Assistant Store Manager will often step in to manage store operations in the absence of the Store Manager, demonstrating capability in handling complex situations, resolving customer and associate issues, and optimizing store functions to deliver excellent shopping experiences. By supporting the development and retention of staff and maintaining high standards of operational performance, the Assistant Store Manager contributes directly to Kroger’s reputation for excellence and its commitment to community and associate success.
