Job Description
SSP America is a global operator of food and beverage outlets, specializing in providing high-quality dining experiences in travel locations such as airports, railway stations, and other transport hubs. The company manages a variety of well-known restaurants, cafes, and bars, delivering exceptional service and culinary offerings tailored to busy travelers and local customers alike. Among its portfolio of brands at Portland International Airport is Hopworks Urban Brewery, a unique destination known for its craft beers and commitment to sustainable brewing practices. This combination of craft brewery culture and airport hospitality makes SSP America a dynamic and innovative employer within the food service industry.
The role of Assistant Restaurant Manager at Hopworks Urban Brewery is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position with a competitive salary of $61,000 per year based on a 50-hour workweek. This role offers not only a stable income but also opportunities for quarterly bonuses and a year-end super bonus, reflecting the company's commitment to rewarding performance and dedication. SSP America supports career progression with internal growth opportunities, giving motivated individuals the chance to advance within the company’s expansive network of food service locations.
As an Assistant Restaurant Manager, you will be at the forefront of operations at a busy, high-volume restaurant located within an international airport. You will oversee both front-of-house and back-of-house activities, ensuring that every aspect of the customer experience meets the highest standards for food quality, safety, and service. Your leadership skills will be key to managing and developing a passionate team of Food Travel Experts, cultivating a positive, efficient, and collaborative work environment that upholds SSP America’s brand values.
Key responsibilities include supervising team members, maintaining strict adherence to food safety protocols and recipes, controlling costs related to food and labor to maximize profitability, and ensuring operational compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Additionally, you will manage inventory, merchandising, scheduling, and office duties such as payroll and purchasing. Your role will involve active participation in forecasting and budgeting to support the financial health of the restaurant.
We seek an individual with a strong background in restaurant management, including experience with full-service environments and bar operations. Candidates should hold a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for additional relevant education or coursework. You will bring at least two years of supervisory experience in food service, complemented by proficiency in MS Office and POS systems. Critical to success in this role are excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and executives, and a proven track record in resolving conflicts professionally.
Working at Hopworks Urban Brewery means joining a vibrant and fast-paced airport environment where every day is different and every customer interaction counts. SSP America offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid time off, 401k with company match, and access to an employee assistance program. The company is an equal opportunity employer, committed to inclusivity and providing reasonable accommodations throughout the hiring process. If you are ready to take on a leadership role in a dynamic, rewarding setting, SSP America and Hopworks Urban Brewery invite you to apply and help shape the future of travel dining.
