The role of the Assistant Manager at Bear's is vital in supporting the General Manager and Assistant General Manager in delivering outstanding service and operational success. This full-time, onsite position requires a skilled and dedicated leader who can oversee the hiring, training, and supervision of hourly staff to ensure alignment with both customer service and sales objectives. The Assistant Manager takes a proactive role in managing daily operations, including cash handling, labor scheduling, and task delegation, to optimize restaurant profitability. Responsibilities include leading pre-shift meetings, preparing end-of-shift reports, and collaborating with various teams to execute special events and marketing initiatives.

Additionally, the Assistant Manager ensures full compliance with Department of Labor regulations, health and safety codes, and company policies, reinforcing a safe and efficient workplace. The role demands flexibility in schedule, with availability for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts to support peak business hours and unexpected operational needs. With an average of 45-55 hours per week, this position is suited for a professional committed to excellence in hospitality, staff development, and delivering memorable guest experiences. Job Requirements

  • Successful completion of company training program including mandatory sexual harassment training within 8 weeks of start date
  • ServSafe certification must have or obtain within 8 weeks of start date and maintain certification throughout employment
  • TIPS alcohol certification must have or obtain within 8 weeks of start date and maintain certification throughout employment
  • Reliable transportation to report to work according to a rotating weekly schedule
  • Ability to stand, walk and remain on your feet for extended periods up to 8 plus hours during events
  • Capacity to perform repetitive tasks such as serving food and beverages or clearing tables throughout the shift
  • Ability to lift, carry and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers required for various tasks essential to restaurant operations
  • Comfortable maneuvering and carrying heavy trays of food and beverages safely
  • Frequent bending, stooping and reaching to set up and clear tables and arrange event spaces
  • Strong hand eye coordination
  • Ability to navigate crowded or confined spaces quickly without disrupting guests or event flow
  • Comfortable working indoors or outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to adapt to fluctuating temperatures in kitchens, serving areas or outdoor venues
  • Ability to maintain clear and professional communication while performing physical tasks
  • Sharp hearing acuity to communicate and respond effectively in loud environments

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor degree in hospitality, tourism, culinary, business administration or related field preferred
  • 1-3 years management experience preferably in the hospitality or restaurant industry
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local health and labor laws and regulations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to train, develop, and supervise staff
  • Capacity to delegate tasks effectively
  • Experience in performance evaluation and providing constructive feedback
  • Ability to foster a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and handling personnel issues with professionalism
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Proficient in computer skills and ability to learn new software applications quickly
  • Proficiency in accounting software, POS systems, and data analysis tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong catering, to-go and events background preferred
  • Experience in managing beer, wine and liquor and knowledge of liquor laws preferred
  • Knowledge of financial statements including P&L, labor reports, cost of goods, sales and product mix

Job Duties

  • Assign key restaurant functions and tasks to hourly staff while maintaining oversight to ensure timely and successful completion
  • Manage profit and loss by enforcing cash control, security protocols, inventory management, labor optimization, and waste reduction
  • Assist in verifying and approving daily sales summaries within the accounting platform, including analyzing discounts, voids, and charitable donations
  • Support inventory management, vendor orders, and invoice entry into the accounting system
  • Ensure facilities and equipment are well-maintained and arrange timely repairs as needed
  • Uphold existing company policies and procedures while identifying and suggesting corrective action plans
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, cleanliness, liquor purchasing and service, and security policies
  • Maintain restaurant cleanliness and general appearance through daily inspections and hold staff accountable
  • Collaborate with management to oversee restaurant operations focusing on labor targets, costs, guest satisfaction, and event execution
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training staff to meet performance and customer service standards
  • Manage staff performance, provide motivation and training, and administer disciplinary actions as needed compliant with labor laws
  • Assist in overseeing onboarding, staff training, scheduling, payroll accuracy, and documentation of attendance, performance, and disciplinary actions
  • Monitor and coach staff interactions with guests to ensure exceptional service delivery
  • Engage with guests to gather feedback, build relationships, and address service concerns promptly
  • Collaborate with the management team to support and implement marketing initiatives and community engagement efforts
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by district staff or ownership
