The Assistant Produce Manager at Dierbergs plays a crucial leadership role in directing and supporting the produce team, fostering an environment of excellence in all aspects of the department. Key responsibilities include managing inventory, ordering, and displays to keep the department attractive and well-stocked, as well as ensuring exceptional customer service through direct interaction and handling special orders.

This position demands attention to detail and a hands-on approach with responsibilities such as prepping fruits and vegetables, arranging salad bar components attractively, monitoring freshness, and maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards. The Assistant Produce Manager ensures all operational aspects, from product quality to labor allocation, are handled effectively to support the department's success.

This role offers flexibility in scheduling, allowing for a healthy work-life balance with most shifts ending by 9 pm. It requires some physical activity, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods, to maintain the daily operations of the department.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to push and pull up to 50 lbs of force occasionally
  • Occasional sitting and climbing frequent standing walking bending kneeling stooping squatting and handling
  • Frequent head turn trunk bend side reach grasp power grip pinch finger manipulation and feel
  • Constant stand handling and forward reach

Job Qualifications

  • One plus years of experience in a leadership capacity preferably in a managerial role showcasing ability to inspire and guide others effectively
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused attitude
  • Flexibility to work evenings weekends and varying shifts

Job Duties

  • Provide direction and support to the produce team inspiring excellence in their roles
  • Monitor operational aspects affecting gross margin and profitability of the prepared food section within the Produce Department
  • Collaborate closely with the Produce Manager and Produce Production Manager to optimize product usage and labor allocation
  • Manage inventory ordering and display of items within the department to ensure an appealing and well-stocked environment
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting customers in person and over the phone processing special orders with precision and care
  • Arrange salad bar components in an attractive and organized manner adhering to company standards for presentation
  • Ensure all salad items are adequately stocked
  • Wash peel chop slice and dice fruits and vegetables
  • Monitor freshness and quality of produce discarding items that do not meet standards
  • Properly store prepped fruits and vegetables to maintain freshness
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas including salad bar stations and prep areas
  • Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards including proper handwashing procedures and wearing appropriate protective gear
  • Monitor temperature controls for perishable items to prevent spoilage and maintain food safety
