Job Description
Lakeside Golf Club is a prestigious private club located in Burbank, California, known for its exquisite dining experiences and exceptional member services. The club prides itself on providing a welcoming and refined atmosphere where members can enjoy not only the sports and recreational facilities but also top-tier culinary offerings. The culinary team at Lakeside Golf Club is dedicated to maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation, ensuring that every meal served enhances the overall club experience. The club is committed to fostering a professional and collaborative work environment where culinary professionals can grow and excel in their craft. The Assistant Pastry Chef position at Lakeside Golf Club offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic culinary team focused on delivering consistent, high-quality pastries and desserts to members and guests.
The Assistant Pastry Chef, also referred to as the Pastry Cook, plays a critical role in the daily production of pastries, desserts, and pastry components that are essential for member dining, banquets, and special events. This role requires someone who is detail-oriented and self-sufficient, capable of working efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen environment typical of a private golf club with a bustling event schedule. The position emphasizes consistency, organization, and reliable execution within a structured pastry program that supports both à la carte and banquet service. The successful candidate will be adept at following established recipes and plating standards to ensure every dessert meets the club’s quality expectations.
Responsibilities include preparing daily pizzas and desserts, handling light dough work focused primarily on pizza dough, and supporting the preparation of bulk items for large banquets, buffets, and special occasions. Maintaining a clean and organized workstation is essential, as is adherence to all sanitation and food safety standards to guarantee the highest level of hygiene and food quality. The Assistant Pastry Chef will be responsible for labeling, dating, rotating, and properly storing all pastry items to ensure freshness and compliance with health regulations. Effective communication is also crucial, particularly regarding product shortages or equipment issues, to maintain smooth kitchen operations.
This role also involves supporting seasonal menu changes by executing new recipes and components provided by the Pastry Chef, offering the opportunity to expand pastry skills and creativity while contributing to the club’s evolving dessert offerings. The position demands the ability to work independently with minimal supervision beyond standard direction, making self-motivation and accountability key attributes. Physical stamina is required, given the need to lift between 30 and 50 pounds and stand for extended periods during shifts.
Lakeside Golf Club fosters a collaborative kitchen environment where clear expectations, consistency, and communication are paramount. Flexibility is essential, especially during busy seasons and larger events, ensuring the pastry team can deliver exceptional service at all times. The club values professionalism and respectful interaction among all kitchen staff, promoting a positive and efficient workplace. Opportunities for career growth include increased responsibility in plated dessert execution and participation in the development of seasonal dessert menus, with potential advancement based on demonstrated skills, consistency, and reliability. This position is ideal for a pastry professional seeking to refine their craft in a reputable private club setting with room for professional development and recognition.
