The role of Assistant Nurse Manager in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Barnes Jewish Hospital's Parkview Tower is a critical leadership position responsible for the coordination of patient care, management of personnel, oversight of equipment and supplies, and accumulation of statistical data within the unit. The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the operational goals of the PACU, a 44-bed unit managing 60-70 cases daily, including minimally invasive surgeries across multiple specialties such as urology, colorectal, gynecology, bariatric, gender reaffirming procedures, and interventional radiology. This position involves managing a 4-day, 10-hour shift schedule (10 AM to 8:30 PM), promoting work-life balance for staff while ensuring the delivery of high-quality care.
Key responsibilities of this role include hiring, training, and evaluating staff performance to ensure productivity aligns with departmental goals set by leadership. The Assistant Nurse Manager participates in staffing planning, budget management, and the implementation of collaborative patient care plans tailored to patients' developmental and medical needs. They also manage daily payroll updates, staff communications, scheduling, overtime assignments, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions, reinforcing a culture of accountability and professional development.
This position is safety-sensitive, requiring constant vigilance and adherence to safety protocols to maintain a secure and effective care environment. Preferred candidates will have PACU or critical care experience, with 2-5 years of nursing experience and appropriate licensure as a registered nurse. Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Manages personnel including hiring, training, assigning work, managing and evaluating performance, and conducting professional development plans
- Participates in departmental staffing, revenue and expense budget development and adherence
- Provides and oversees patient care according to planned interventions and documents according to policy
- Creates and ensures implementation of collaborative plans of care based on assessment, diagnosis and medical treatment
- Supports review of staff hours worked versus scheduled hours, performs and approves daily payroll updates, reconciles time cards and tracks bonuses
- Prepares, coordinates, and executes staff communications, leads meetings and determines staffing needs
- Manages nursing assignments, overtime, recommends annual salary increases, and conducts interviews and performance reviews
- Responsible for staff productivity and achievement of departmental operational goals
- Ensures a constant state of alertness and adherence to safety standards as this is a safety-sensitive position
