The role of Assistant Meat Manager at Dierbergs is a key position within the Meat Department, designed for individuals passionate about culinary arts, particularly in meat handling, roasting, and grilling. This full-time position offers the chance to lead a high-performing team, supervise daily department operations, and maintain the highest standards of product quality and food safety. The Assistant Meat Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting the department’s success by training staff, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with food regulations, including those from the FDA and USDA.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 90 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to push and pull up to 50 lbs of force occasionally
  • Ability to sit climb occasionally frequent standing walking bending kneeling stooping squatting and handling
  • Frequent ability to perform head turn trunk bend side reach grasp power grip pinch finger manipulation and feel
  • Constant ability to stand handling and forward reach
  • Must have 1+ years of Journeyman Meat or Service Counter Journeyman experience
  • Must exhibit leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills
  • Must understand proper food handling and sanitation procedures
  • Must be flexible to work evenings weekends and varying shifts

  • 1+ years of Journeyman Meat or Service Counter Journeyman experience
  • Strong problem-solving abilities leadership qualities interpersonal skills and a motivational mindset
  • Comprehensive understanding of proper food handling and sanitation procedures and guidelines
  • Genuine passion for food and ability to thrive in fast-paced environments
  • Capable of multitasking providing direction delegating tasks and ensuring compliance with departmental programs policies and procedures
  • Ability to forecast and order products and supplies effectively managing inventory
  • Proficiency in controlling expenses and achieving financial goals
  • Flexibility to work evenings weekends and varying shifts

Job Duties

  • Provide leadership direction and supervision to department associates with a focus on training and development
  • Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for quality products by stocking and maintaining meat cases
  • Uphold freshness and visual appeal of products while adhering to FDA USDA and local food policies and regulations
  • Collaborate with store management and other departments to create compelling displays that drive sales and promote featured specials and seasonal items
  • Champion suggestive selling techniques and set a positive example for the department
  • Forecast and order products and supplies to manage inventory while maintaining freshness and rotation
  • Control expenses and strive to achieve financial goals
