Colorado State University Residential Dining Services (RDS) is a prominent dining operations organization committed to delivering exceptional dining experiences to its campus community. RDS operates five dining centers, two convenience stores, a full bakeshop, and a warehouse, serving approximately 12,000 meals daily to 6,000 students who reside on campus. The position of Assistant Manager at CSU's Residential Dining Services is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing daily operations at one of the university's residential dining facilities. The Assistant Manager supervises both full-time and part-time staff, providing leadership through scheduling, training, coaching, and performance evaluations to maintain high standards of service and operational efficiency. This role also involves procuring food and supplies, managing food costs, ensuring quality and quantity of meals served, as well as overseeing deliveries and storage to maintain inventory accuracy. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining safety, sanitation, and accident prevention standards, ensuring compliance with university policies and health regulations.

Successful candidates will be committed to upholding the dining facility’s front-of-house standards, including cleanliness, food presentation, and signage accuracy, ensuring a welcoming environment for students and guests. The Assistant Manager also plays a crucial role in hiring, interviewing candidates, and supporting selection decisions to build a competent and motivated team. This is an essential service role requiring prompt response to any operational needs related to health, safety, and welfare, with an important requirement that the incumbent obtains ServSafe Manager Certification within six months of hire. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five years of foodservice experience including at least one year of supervisory experience
  • Must successfully pass the ServSafe certification exam within six months of hire date
  • Pre-employment criminal background check
  • Must comply with essential services designation and report without delay for emergency services
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five years of foodservice experience including at least one year of supervisory experience
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in hospitality management, culinary arts, business, or related field preferred
  • Four years or more of supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in a complex high-volume food production operation preferred
  • Experience working in a university environment preferred
  • Experience with ordering and inventory systems preferred

Job Duties

  • Supervise full- and part-time employees, including delegating assignments, scheduling, conducting training, evaluating performance, issuing discipline, and mediating differences
  • Interview full- and part-time applicants and assist with hiring decisions
  • Ensure all front-of-house customer-facing visual standards are met, including cleanliness and organization of the dining room, food presentation, and accurate signage
  • Order and inventory food and supplies to maintain accurate inventory levels
  • Attend and successfully complete training sessions, including ServSafe Manager Certification, sexual harassment, food allergies, and new employee onboarding
  • Manage food costs and quality control
  • Receive deliveries and ensure proper storage and sanitation protocols
