Job Description
Panda Restaurant Group, Inc., known widely as Panda Express, is the largest family-owned American Chinese Restaurant concept in America. Founded in 1983 in Glendale, California, Panda Express has grown to operate nearly 2,300 locations globally. The company is committed to delivering exceptional Asian dining experiences, emphasizing quality food, superior customer service, and a welcoming environment. A core element of Panda Express's ethos is fostering a culture centered on family values, continuous learning, and community involvement. This dedication to employee development and community engagement makes Panda Express a sought-after employer in the foodservice industry. They invest in their associates through ongoing training, leadership development programs, and comprehensive benefits, ensuring a supportive environment where team members can thrive both personally and professionally.
The Assistant Manager role at Panda Express is a pivotal leadership position responsible for driving the daily operations of a single restaurant store. This role involves managing and directing the team, overseeing hiring, and ensuring that financial targets and guest satisfaction goals are met. Assistant Managers are expected to maintain high operational standards while fostering a positive work environment. They play a key role in mentoring associates and facilitating their growth through structured support and training. To prepare candidates for success, Panda Express provides an extensive three-or-more-week Store Leadership Training program designed to equip new managers with the skills necessary to lead effectively. The job requires flexibility as scheduling includes weekends and the possibility of working at a store within a 50-mile radius.
Panda Express emphasizes rewarding its employees with a generous compensation package that includes hourly pay ranging from $29 to $32, depending on experience and location, along with bonus opportunities. Full-time associates receive comprehensive medical, vision, dental, and additional insurance benefits, including voluntary short-term disability and cancer income protection. The company also offers valuable employee perks such as free meals during working hours, paid time off, paid holidays, bereavement leave, and an inclusive Leave Share Program to support team members during challenging times. Other notable benefits include 401K plans with company matching, pre-tax dependent care flexible spending accounts, and discounts on theme parks, gym memberships, and more.
In this fast-paced role, Assistant Managers must be adept at handling the physical demands of kitchen work, including standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working efficiently in hot and noisy environments with limited space. Candidates should possess strong verbal communication skills, the ability to adapt to dynamic priorities, and the capacity to manage conflicts professionally. The position requires Serve Safe certification in food safety to ensure the highest standards of food handling and guest safety.
Panda Restaurant Group is dedicated to inclusion and equal opportunity. The company provides reasonable accommodations during the application and hiring process for qualified individuals in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Panda Express values diversity, does not discriminate on legally protected bases, and promotes a workplace culture where everyone is welcomed and respected. Aspiring candidates will find not only a promising career path with opportunities for growth into management positions but also a supportive community passionate about empowering its people to better their lives.
