The Assistant Manager of Food Services plays a crucial role within the Park District's Food Services department. This part-time position is designed for an energetic, organized, and customer-focused individual who is passionate about food service operations and guest satisfaction. Working under the supervision of the Manager of Food Services, the Assistant Manager is responsible for managing concession operations during the Food Service Manager’s absence, supervising staff, assisting with scheduling and evaluations, and maintaining high standards of quality control at concession sites. This role requires excellent leadership capabilities, outstanding organizational and communication skills, and a strong commitment to safety and customer service.

The Assistant Manager will be tasked with opening and closing cash registers, preparing daily paperwork, assisting with inventory and ordering supplies, and ensuring that guest concerns are handled promptly and professionally. This position demands periodic physical activity such as standing for long periods, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds occasionally. With a focus on safety, the Assistant Manager must follow all safety protocols as part of the Park District's comprehensive safety program. Additionally, this person is expected to support staff development and maintain a positive work environment that aligns with the district’s values of professionalism, respect, and fairness.

Candidates with a background in business, hospitality management, or related fields are preferred, although extensive relevant service experience may suffice. Certification as an ANSI approved food manager and BASSETT or the ability to obtain these within 30 days of hire is required. Two or more years of experience in food sales and customer service is essential, with additional experience in personnel management, inventory control, and bookkeeping being an asset. The successful candidate will have computer proficiency, including experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems, and be adept at multitasking and effective team communication.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in business hospitality management or related field preferred

Job Duties

  • Manages concession operations in the absence of the Food Service Manager
  • Supervises subordinate staff including training and directing
  • Assists in scheduling and evaluating as needed
  • Serves as on-site observer to maintain quality control of concession operations
  • Opens and closes registers and prepare daily paperwork
  • Assists with inventory and ordering as needed
  • Ensures guest concerns are addressed promptly and professionally
  • Follows all safety procedures and supports the Park District's safety program
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
