Job Description

American Cruise Lines is the largest USA flagged cruise line operating in the United States, renowned for its dedication to providing unique and intimate small-ship cruise experiences. With vessels accommodating no more than 200 passengers, the company emphasizes personalized service and a deeply engaging journey that celebrates America's rich history and destinations. Founded on the values of Optimism, Commitment, Patriotism, and Merit, American Cruise Lines has established a culture that prioritizes high-quality service, safety, and guest satisfaction. The company operates a fleet of elegant vessels that explore rivers, coastal waters, and inland waterways throughout the United States, combining modern amenities with thoughtful, attentive hospitality to create memorable travel experiences.

The role of Assistant Manager - Hotel Operations is a pivotal position within the shipboard management team. This role is designed for dynamic and experienced hospitality professionals who are passionate about service excellence in a unique maritime environment. Reporting directly to the Hotel Manager, the Assistant Manager will actively participate in managing the hotel department on board newly constructed cruise vessels for American Cruise Lines' 2026 season. This is a full-time, exempt position offering a competitive daily rate and benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, along with a 401(k) plan with matching contributions. The cruise line covers travel, room and board, uniforms, and training expenses.

The Assistant Manager's primary responsibility includes supporting the Hotel Manager in overseeing all facets of shipboard hotel operations, such as guest services, culinary and dining operations, housekeeping, bar management, and onboard enrichment activities. You will supervise key team members including the Housekeeping Manager and Guest Service Coordinator, ensuring that all service standards are consistently met or exceeded. A strong focus will be placed on delivering an exemplary guest experience by maintaining cleanliness, operational efficiency, and fostering a gracious, welcoming atmosphere for passengers and crew alike.

The position demands leadership excellence, a high level of professionalism, and the capacity to adapt to the unique challenges of life at sea. The Assistant Manager must be present during all meal services to support dining operations, manage bar inventory, oversee crew training and scheduling, and contribute actively to events and activities onboard. In the absence of the Hotel General Manager, this role includes the responsibility of managing the hotel department's operations and ensuring continued service quality.

Candidates must have a minimum of three years of management experience in full-service hotels, resorts, or cruise ships, along with a demonstrated ability to motivate and lead teams effectively. Educational qualifications like a Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management are preferred but not mandatory if compensated by substantial relevant experience. The position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office, excellent communication skills in English, and the capability to work extended hours in a demanding environment. Given the maritime context, successful candidates must pass a US Coast Guard-regulated drug test and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

American Cruise Lines fosters an inclusive work environment and is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity and fairness in hiring and employment practices. The work schedule entails seven days a week onboard for six to eight weeks, followed by one to two weeks off, requiring the ability to live aboard a ship for extended periods and manage the physical demands of shipboard life. This role offers a unique blend of career advancement, hands-on leadership experience, and the opportunity to contribute to cruise experiences that uniquely celebrate American heritage and scenic waterways.
