The role offered at Indiana University Dining and Hospitality is a management position focused on supporting and overseeing IMU Retail Dining and Catering operations. This position requires assisting with administrative and production management, scheduling and supervising employees, overseeing meal preparation and service, managing menu planning, and directing various operational activities such as inventory control, budget preparation, and customer service. The role often involves working closely with management to ensure smooth operations and may involve stepping in as Acting General Manager when needed.

It is a variable shift position with shifts adjusted according to business needs, including lunches, special meals, and event-related functions. Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Assists with the management, administration and/or production for IMU Retail Dining and Catering operations
  • schedules and supervises employees, customer service, oversight of the preparation, and service of meals
  • purchases and manages the production of assignments, including managing the menus and orders, directing store attendants and overseeing of the receiving process
  • works with the Retail Area Manager or the location General Manager in the areas of budget preparation and monitoring, inventory control, preparation and analysis of financial reports, customer service and coordination of special events and conferences
  • rotates weekly, monthly and seasonal promotions and assists with brand management
  • assumes the role of the General Manager in their absence
  • plans, hires and schedules student employees, assigns and monitors work, approves time off, provides regular training, resolves grievances and promotes employee development
  • explains and demonstrates food handling and sanitation procedures
  • monitors work performance to ensure compliance with standards
  • reviews production worksheets and organizes shift tasks
  • places orders for food and records usage and leftovers
  • directs food preparation, serving sizes, temperature control, order taking and timely delivery
  • ensures customer service standards
  • monitors inventory and completes food orders
  • resolves customer complaints
  • maintains food safety, training and food logs
  • may handle cash management for retail sales
  • may prepare and cook food from recipes
  • may perform bartending, catering, or dining room service tasks
