Job Description

Insomnia Cookies is a well-established bakery and delivery company known for its delicious warm cookies and innovative delivery service. Founded in a college dorm room by Seth Berkowitz, the company has grown exponentially over the past two decades to become a beloved brand with a dedicated following of cookie lovers. Headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, Insomnia Cookies operates over 300 stores worldwide and continues to expand its footprint with a focus on providing an experiential and convenient "sweet-easy" concept. The brand is renowned not only for its high-quality products but also for its commitment to customer satisfaction, rapid delivery services, and unique gifting options through its nationwide shipping portfolio.

The role of Assistant Bakery Operations Manager (ABOM) at Insomnia Cookies blends hands-on operational excellence with talent development, administrative ownership, and team leadership. This position acts as an extension of the Bakery Operations Manager (BOM) and requires the ability to assume full bakery ownership when necessary. The Evanston, IL store located at 1725 Sherman, IL 60201 is seeking an ABOM who is committed to maintaining the highest standards of bakery operations, ensuring product quality, and delivering superior guest experiences.

The ABOM is responsible for executing all core bakery operations such as inventory rotation, scheduling support, staffing coordination, and managing administrative checklists. This role requires strict adherence to product quality, cleanliness, food safety, and guest experience standards. Additionally, the ABOM supports ordering, inventory accuracy, and shrink control, playing a crucial part in schedule creation and labor execution to meet operational goals.

Talent and team development are central to this role. The ABOM supports recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training new staff, while providing consistent coaching and real-time performance feedback. Accountability is key, as the ABOM holds team members to company standards and encourages a culture of growth and development. Executing onboarding and training programs according to company standards ensures the bakery remains fully staffed and trained.

Leadership and ownership responsibilities include managing bakery operations independently in the absence of the BOM, modeling urgency, accountability, and operational discipline. The ABOM will collaborate with BOM and Area leadership to identify operational gaps and implement solutions to maintain smooth continuity during leadership transitions or staffing shortages. Other duties as assigned contribute to the overall success of bakery operations.

Success in this role is defined by the ability to perform all BOM-level administrative and operational tasks independently, ensuring the bakery operates at high standards with a fully staffed and trained team. The ABOM fosters a strong culture of accountability and consistency and serves as a reliable operational leader across various coverage scenarios. Demonstrating readiness and upward mobility toward a Bakery Operations Manager role is a key outcome for this position.

This position offers competitive pay and bonus eligibility, along with medical, dental, vision, and pet insurance. Paid vacation and wellness days support work-life balance, and the company provides a career development pipeline into BOM leadership. Additional perks include free cookies every shift and a fun, fast-paced team culture. Insomnia Cookies is passionate about creating an environment where employees can thrive and grow, embodying the brand's philosophy of "Imagining What's Possible."
