Job Description
Gryphon is a vibrant hospitality and operations company based in Savannah, Georgia, United States, dedicated to delivering exceptional service and operational excellence. As part of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) community, Gryphon operates in dynamic environments focused on quality, customer satisfaction, and innovative food and beverage service. The company emphasizes a collaborative spirit, inclusion, and a positive work atmosphere where employees are empowered to grow and succeed. Gryphon's commitment to diversity and equal employment opportunities reflects in every aspect of its operations, ensuring a welcoming environment for all staff and customers.
The role of Assistant Manager at Gryphon is a full-time position that requires a flexible and proactive leader who can operate between Gryphon and Art’s locations to provide operational support and leadership. This role is crucial in maintaining high standards of store operation, including supervising baristas and work-study students, ensuring that the environment is clean, organized, and well-stocked. Responsibilities extend to training staff, enhancing customer service, product education, and maintaining safe work practices to comply with health and safety regulations. The Assistant Manager plays an integral role in maintaining a positive and efficient workplace atmosphere, focusing on fast, friendly, and efficient service to customers and creating a supportive environment for team members.
This position involves important financial oversight duties such as reviewing transactions, monitoring budgets, estimating food and beverage costs, and managing requisitions or purchases to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to budget guidelines. The Assistant Manager is also responsible for addressing customer issues proactively and ensuring all financial handling procedures are followed carefully during shifts. In the operational capacity, this role includes planning daily menus and creative features in collaboration with food preparation personnel, maintaining quality standards, sanitation regulations, and handling food quality and service complaints professionally.
Further operational duties include managing the hostess stand, greeting and seating guests, managing reservations, and ensuring the smooth flow of services in the establishment. The role also involves end-of-day closing procedures for securing the premises and ensuring the facility is left clean and ready for the next business day. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong customer service skills, familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) daily operations—particularly proficiency with the Toast POS system—and the ability to assist staff with technical issues.
Gryphon promotes an inclusive culture aligned with SCAD's values, encouraging employees to contribute authentically and embrace diversity. The Assistant Manager is expected to uphold these principles while delivering exceptional operational leadership and customer service. As a part of SCAD, Gryphon provides a supportive work environment with reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals with disabilities. The company also adheres to strict practices regarding nondiscrimination and sexual misconduct, fostering a safe and respectful workplace.
This full-time role operates within SCAD’s university work week, which runs Sunday through Saturday, with primary business hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. However, flexibility to work weekends and evenings may be required to meet business needs. The Assistant Manager position offers an excellent opportunity for motivated professionals seeking to advance their careers in hospitality and operations management within a supportive, inclusive, and innovative environment.
