The Assistant Manager (AM) at BURGER KING plays a crucial role as the operations leader of the restaurant, dedicated to driving profitability, enhancing guest service, fostering people development, and managing overall restaurant operations. Reporting directly to the Restaurant General Manager (RGM), the Assistant Manager supports the day-to-day management of a single restaurant while steering key performance outcomes. The AM leads and manages a team typically consisting of 20-45 employees, including Hourly Shift Coordinators and Team Members, ensuring that the team delivers excellent service while maintaining operational standards.

This leadership role requires a hands-on approach to managing inventory costs, conducting regular inventory inspections, and placing and receiving orders to ensure smooth restaurant operations. The Assistant Manager is responsible for maintaining and monitoring all restaurant assets and facilitating preventative maintenance for the facility and equipment in accordance with company standards, often coordinating with external vendors when necessary. Financial controls such as cash handling and security procedures are also critical components of the role.

In terms of guest experience, the Assistant Manager motivates and directs the restaurant team to surpass guest expectations by providing accurate, fast, and friendly service within a clean and welcoming facility. The AM is also instrumental in people development, providing coaching and feedback to team members to enhance their skills and improve restaurant performance overall.

Operational excellence is a key focus, with the Assistant Manager directing the team to prepare and sell products efficiently and accurately, adhering to established speed of service guidelines, and ensuring that the restaurant consistently upholds operational and brand standards. This role also involves stepping in to perform the duties of an Hourly Shift Coordinator when needed, demonstrating a flexible and supportive leadership style.

The position requires candidates to be at least 18 years of age, with a minimum educational requirement of a high school diploma or GED, while college education is preferred. Experience in quick service restaurant operations is important, with a strong preference for management experience. The role demands availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and the ability to work long or irregular shifts as required by the restaurant's operational needs.

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED required, 2 years of college preferred
  • 1-2 years of previous quick service restaurant experience, experience in management preferred
  • Some understanding of P&L interpretation and management influence profitability
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of guest service principles
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work long and/or irregular shifts as needed, for the proper functioning of the restaurant

Job Duties

  • Manages inventory costs and maintains inventory by performing daily, weekly, and monthly inventory inspections
  • Places and receives inventory truck orders
  • Maintains and regularly monitors a list of all restaurant assets
  • Ensures preventative maintenance of restaurant facility and equipment is completed in accordance with company standards, interacting with external vendors as required
  • Ensures that the restaurant follows all cash control and security procedures
  • Motivates and directs team members to exceed guest expectations with accurate, fast, and friendly service in a clean facility
  • Provides coaching and feedback to Shift Coordinators and Team Members to increase the restaurant team's capabilities and raise restaurant performance
  • Directs restaurant team toward efficient and accurate preparation and sale of products for prompt delivery within established speed of service guidelines
  • Ensures that the restaurant upholds operational and brand standards
  • Performs duties of Hourly Shift Coordinator when necessary
